  1. Pangram today. Some thoughts

    12 - Dutch leaders pursue about dismissing eight lords (5) - {DU}KES Anno pending

    DU[KE(-e)S]<-

    6 - Personal matter on affairs to rise eventually (7) -?O?S?E?

    DOS SIER* . Personal record might have been more appropriate.

    18 - Unknown worker has a house outside the borders of an ancient city (7) - {X}{ANT}{H}U?

    ancient city = X ANT HUS(-oe)
    oe = borders of outside ?

  2. No comments, no reactions!!
    I woke up late as it's supposedly a Bandh day here in Bengaluru (everything seems to be running though) tussled with today's CW, didn't manage to finish it by my deadline, that's why you see no images or cartoons, not that I was in the mood seeing the fare offered today.

  3. Thanks Bhavan,

    I thought the ancient city was XANTHOS

  4. Bhavan,

    I had thought of DOSSIER but dismissed it and I couldn't see any AInd for RISE.

  5. @Colonel, I had it as PROSPER for a long time meaning 'rise eventually' which I couldn't fit with the wordplay at all.

    Eventually(!) it dawned that eventually might be an AInd.

  6. Everyone knows who marked this as outstanding !!!

  7. Deepak, the Bandh had the opposite effect on me. My son had an industrial visit from his college. He checked this morning and they said it was on. However, no buses were running (!) and I took him to the college only to hear that it was off since the bus was not coming and the resultant ride back. No buses at all on my route in the one hour we spent on the road.

    So, my CW too experienced a bundh. Now to put pen to paper...

  10. Bhavan,
    @airdrome-Is conducted supposed be Anind? Why "city's"?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Padmanabhan,

    Conducted = AInd
    a
    raid = Anagram fodder
    at the
    city's = ROME
    hangar site (8) = Definition = {AIRD*}{ROME}

    17 a - how many letters could be taken from subsequent words? i was lost...
    xanthus - where in the world is this? only because it starts from x i presume its in china.
    I also could not understand what is a potato doing in a stocking?
    how many days left?
    Probably someone wanted to test the resilience of the solvers...i presume..how could u justify airdrome other than this.

  14. A suggestion:

    We restrict our comments only on clues, not on setters.

    That way we can avoid being personal, but at the same time air our views.

  15. Is a hole in a stocking called a potato. I do not know. I could not find it in a Dictionary. Maybe I need to check elsewhere

    Before Shyam, two other visitors to crossword forums in India have won DIYCOW comp, I think.
