  1. Hi
GIF-U required Google confirmation and IN-ANNA a roster of goddesses. Cheated on SPAVIN, I ain’t no equestrian expert nor Alf Wight. A Tamil song talked of ‘muLagada ship’for 12d.

  4. It was a good puzzle today I thought with a few surfaces being best in the current run. My COD is 7D.

    24 - It's extracted in good condition in this new state (6) - {ORE}{G}{O}N} What condition is 'O' ?

I thought it was GO for good condition as an adj. Like the systems are a go.

  5. 16 - Kind of swelling resulting in lameness (6) - SPAVIN [E] Had to Google this

I am sure most of us would not have heard of this one. And worse, when it comes as a non cryptic clue, it becomes a pure GK clue. Suppose it had been clued as

Victor in Spain gets swelling (6) or something like that, then the wordplay could lead the solver to the comparatively unknown disease (at least to lay persons).

  6. @Kishore 08.42 : Completely agree. When introducing a not so common word in the grid, a word play clue + crossings go a long way in deducing it.

I prefer to do that and use google for confirmation rather than having to paste the clue in and see what it turns up.

  7. 15D was too easy once the crossings were in, so let's try to set a cryptic clue for AUCKLAND, one entry per head, no competition just to pass time.

  8. Enjoyable crossword except for some E clues like 11A and 12D. Few new words which I will read and forget like spavin and inanna

  11. 24 - It's extracted in good condition in this new state (6) - {ORE}{G}{O}N} What condition is 'O' ?

Hi .. I'm a beginner at cryptics. I had a doubt - For the clue above, aren't there too many "in"s that could be (should be) construed as part of the cryptic clue?

Also, Son *in* Poland will encourage an act of spending money extravagantly (7)

  12. 24 - It's extracted in good condition *in* this new state (6) - {ORE}{G}{O}N} What condition is 'O' ?

    Also in 4d

I'm a beginner at cryptics. Doesn't the "in" that is used as a part of the cryptic definitions mislead? Is it meant to?
