  1. R is for reich used to designate an empire, realm, or nation.
    Die Hard is a DD

  2. 18 - Money we exchanged for fruit with a dope (6,3) - {CASH}{EW*} {NUT}

    Colonel, you will agree the cashew nut is a kernel, not a fruit. So initially MM appears to be on the wrong foot.

    But botanically what we know as the cashew apple is just the accessory fruit and the drupe is the real fruit and botanically a nut is just an one seeded fruit. So all is well.

  3. 1) A diehard is a person who strongly opposes change or who continues to support something in spite of opposition - an obstinate politician
    2) To die hard is to have a lingering farewell (CD)

  4. 18D What is missing is the definition. Apple(fruit) replaced by NUT ( dope) is fine if there was a def.

  6. To my mind more than one E type of clue in a Cryptic crossword indicates a slightly lazy mindset of the setter in terms of clueing.

  7. Agree with you Vikram, except that I do not even give a concession of one E clue

  8. Touching and yielding in decline (9) - RECESSION Anno pending

    RE + CESSION
    Touching = Concerning =Regarding= RE
    Yielding = Cession = Surrender
