ReplyDeleteWhat is the connection between links & Frankfurter?
17D- Applecart-
ReplyDeleteIn today's Guardian quick ( published in Chennai Chronicle), the clue is "Fruit carrier often upset"
Sounds more cryptic?
ReplyDeleteDear Padmanabhan, this is what I see as definition of frankfurter: A smoked sausage of beef or beef and pork made in long reddish links.
ReplyDelete8 - Deviant idiots behind sexual indiscretion (1,3,2,3,4) - A BIT ON THE SIDE Anno pending
ReplyDeleteDeviant is AnagrInd
Fodder is IDIOTS+BENEATH (behind)
Defn: sexual indiscretion A BIT ON THE SIDE*
@SR good spot. Sadly that takes the indirect anagram count for the puzzle to 3.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the clarification Krishnan.
ReplyDeleteOverall good one I think. Anybody notice that 26A is indicated as 10 letters but is actually only 9?
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the connection between "invigorating fresh air" and OZONE. It's actually toxic to inhale!
ReplyDeleteBhala,
I did.
Don't think Mover's puzzles can be called cryptic crosswords - they are quiptics if anything. Mover's clues are very simplistic and have almost no element of misdirection or humor or superior wordplay penny drop moments that characterize the clues of our other friends like Sankalak, Gridman, Buzzer or Scintillator etc. Hopefully Mover works on polishing his craft to better humor his band of solvers and watch out for the many pitfalls that lie for setters like wrong wordplay, indirects, poor homophones etc..
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the connection between "invigorating fresh air" and ozone. The latter is toxic when inhaled!
ReplyDelete@navneeth from Chambers : Ozone (n) Brit. informal fresh invigorating air, especially that blowing on to the shore from the sea.
