Never knew that a hospice was a place for ordinary travelers to rest.

With 'OPERATION' as definition, parts of the clue - month (DEC) and ending MY - gave the answer away.
What proved challenging was the justification for the first part. A little search showed that in Yorkshire dialect, 'HAPPEN' is used for 'perhaps'.

Was honoured with a visit by Sankalak and his wife who dropped in at my place today, Kishore and his wife also joined in to give company. Unforunately I forgot to capture images of the visit on my camera even though I had taken it out and kept it ready prior to their arrival.
