No 12189, Friday 15 Dec 2017, Sunnet

Today onwards on Fridays, only the blank clues will be posted. All those who are silent followers of the blog are requested to post answers with annotations in the comments section. There is no limit on how many answers you want to give. In your own interest please avoid looking up the answers from the interactive version.

The regular blog will replace the clues at 4 PM after which anyone is free to comment.

Thanks everyone for the great response. Here is the regular blog

  5. Newbie, irregular Commenters are advised to post whatever answers they have without bothering about any repetitions from previous Comments. The idea is we want people to come out of oblivion.
We will be happy if they also add a line as to the location from where they are posting.
    Thanks, Dr Jyotsana.

    1. Thanks for a nice puzzle, Sunnet. I enjoyed the clues for Hell bent, rampage and Satin. I managed to solve 11 clues and the ones I missed as usual I felt why I missed.
My personal difficulties are using RESIDENT to mean LOCAL (the latter I think of as an adjective, so find it difficult to match it with the noun resident. Of course I've used local as a noun in that sense, but not sure it was acceptable!)
Another difficulty I faced in 27Ac. Share for piece (Show piece) I find it was not something that comes to me naturally.Purely personal observations. ---Vanchinathan

  61. About the need for indicator for Indian-
Margazhi- Tamil month (Dec.15th- Jan 14th)- is the Music season with lots of Katchris in various Sabhas in Madras. This is so very well known with lots of Indians coming over from all parts of the world that no special mention is needed. The puzzle absolutely well timed- on the dot,so to say. One can almost say (like Neyartha) some clues need no definition.

  62. Marathon entries ever ?! I knew there are many solvers out there , than those who appear here, from the ICL entries, but wondered why they are not to be seen here. CV has always pioneered new ideas here and Col Deepak is ever democratic and ready to play ball. Welcome to all the new commenters , not newbies ( as they are already unknown solvers and addicts, I'd say !) . Why and where were they hiding ? One request. Please don't develop cold feet and disappear, as we are all learners in this blog to the extent that each compiler comes out with new ideas and tricks that are challenging. Keep the ball rolling Col. None is happier than me to see our tribe ( not just THCC family !) expanding. One aspect of cryptic crossword is to consume your egoism and efface you to be humble as there is always one more compiler out there, to challenge your talent and improve the craft of cruciverbalism. Welcome aboard, ye-all !

    ReplyDelete
  63. Thank you, Sunnet. Are Katcheri and Mridangam in the English dictionary? If not, can OED and Chambers count them in , if not done already? Wikipedia features all these amnd many more Indian words. English language is eclectic and secular ( unlike our dear Nation ??)
