  4. Hello all,
Does the word 'basically' have any specific meaning in a clue? I have been seeing it quite often but can't pinpoint a specific function.
I was also wondering if the presence of an ellipsis at the start or end of the clue (as seen twice today) conveys any meaning?

    1. Sam I'd.. If you closely look at the annotation of the clue 22d as given in the blog, it denotes the 1st letter.
Ellipsis in two clues bind the two clues in the surface story (in some clues in word play and/or definition too)

    2. Sorry for the typo in your name

    3. Thank you!
Ah yes, should have noticed the first letter!
Re ellipsis - I can see how 23A and 25A can be joined to make a meaningful sentence. But the others don't seem to have any connections between them at all
