      Is the absence of misdirection - leading the solvers up the garden path and their having to retrace their steps, find a different path and after getting the answer later let out an 'aha!' - a drawback? What is your opinion?

      The "aha" is certainly part of the kick in solving THC daily. But I don't think every clue, however deliberate, can give that kick.
      Also I remember my initial days, back in 2010-11, when completing a grid was such a big booster. I believe that is still important to new solvers. So no complains,

      its just a statement on the style ( dont twist your brain the first straight one that x's my brain is the answer) and in the big picture that style is needed for the cryptic crossword world.
