  1. My FRIENDS and all other solvers would have LUNGED at 7 down. Ping-PONG!
    SPOT on!!

The BIG SHOTS no doubt would have SOLVED the puzzle in no time!

    ALL RIGHT.

The WEALTH of Incognito's knowledge and his MISCHIEF is ESPIED by many. There would hardly have been any white squares OPEN.

A pleasant beginning to the day.

    1. Dear Mr. Bhargav,
Let me be among one of the firsts to congratulate you for coining truly interessting narratives from the answers to the assorted clues.
Well, your witty and literary endeavour has prompted me to recall those catchwords in an ad featuring former India's cricket captain: KAPIL DA JAWAB NAHI...
In tune with that slug, I must say, "C G Bhargav ka Jawab Nahi!!!!"

  4. 2D. PUBLICAN (4D -"ale-wife" - a corpulent female tavern keeper) ??

    1. Alewife semantically a bartender.
      Publican employs a bartender.

But technically publican is also an employee. So can we say he employs?

  7. I was caught or stumped by the 4D until I accessed this blogspot. Likewise, the 22A too teased my thought-process to no ends...
All said and done, an entertaining grid.

  8. 21d a technical doubt:
Ball and ballad have same root ballare (dance song or song for dance). Does it come under "root" problem.
