ReplyDeleteNice Tribute to Gridman. Thank you KKR ji.
ReplyDeleteLovely. Trying this have earned today’s SIESTA. A fitting tribute to someone RARE, the RISHI indeed. APPRECIATE the GLIBNESS of the clue surfaces reminding us of his MEASURED style. Especially 21 Down and Across (SIESTA and SAPOTA) and DECRYPTION for he was a master at it.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, GRIDMAN is IN PEACE leaving us not ALL AT SEA but fairly LITERATE having attempted his grids in the DAILIES. His grids and guidance provided hold like a BALUSTRADE and gave us a PISTOL GRIP on the nuances of cryptic crosswords. We are thankful and ENRICHed. Even a NODDY at cryptics would be ABLE now as a good READER.
Thank you KKR
Nice one Ramesh

Something is wrong with my mobile. After typing everything, when I press publish button, it returns without publishing sometimes. This is today's problem only. I am typing from another device.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, KKR ji, am I right or wrong?
Spot on, AJ!
DeleteYes, I guessed something wrong with your mobile. That's why I didn't point out the typo in your ISOBAR explanation.
17AV AND 24DN still to be solved
ReplyDeleteNice tribute KKR and well executed. Thank you for enlivening a Sunday AN (for me)
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed solving some real good cyptics.

ReplyDelete17A ADWARE; a computer program that promotes; {AD}{WARfarE}; AD= air defence; close meaning not FAR.
ReplyDeleteRather wild guess.
That's the best guess, not wild. Kudos Jacob!
DeleteYour comment @ 13:51 "there is more to it" was the cue to think out of the box.
Delete+ Hinted to look "CLOSE"ly later
DeleteThat brings us to the end.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you all found some time to look at the grid in remembrance of our beloved Gridman.
Let us all remember this great soul forever.
For me, whenever I look at a grid, Gridman comes to my mind.
For 10a, the solution given is ELBA, taking Napoleon’s place of exile as definition. I took gifted as definition and reversed ELBA to ABLE. Only ABLE satisfies the crossing.
ReplyDeleteI hope my clue was clear. I placed "in return" after Napoleon’s place of exile. So, there should be no confusion, right?
DeleteFor me , there was no confusion about the clue or solution. My confusion was about your statement ‘ That brings us to the end’ even before the right answer was given for 10a.
DeleteOh, I missed that. I thought it was corrected.
DeleteMy favourite clues today are for secure, adware, measured and glibness. I felt that they have been cleverly clued. An interesting afternoon, thanks to KKR.
DeleteMany thanks AJ!
