  1. 22A: I took is=lies. One of the meaning of lies: to exist.

    2. That is right Vasant. Be= lie, is= lies. Europe is north of the equator. Europe lies north of the equator.
If you see, there is no need for 'is' in the clue. It could well have been 'Innkeeper throttled by'... so 'is' serves a purpose in the clue.

  3. The scene in the bus-stand is NOISOME.
To give IMPETUS to the steps to contain the Pandemic an extended lockdown could be announced.

So the MIGRANT workers who lead a HAND TO MOUTH life are eager to get back to their hometown.

The fares are not NEGOTIABLE! The operators want to make EXTRA money.

Caution should be our WATCHWORD. May the happy times and the ????? ????? return soon!

  4. Indeed, I have no words to compliment Mr. Bhargav for his superb Wordplay or Spell-O-Fun, coined from the solutions and often the clues too!!!
So much so I would term his endeavour as a soothing balm to provide an entertaining final touch at the end of all the brain-teasers.

Dr X grids are an 16A and we will choose the former if asked 1A! So many 25A's even for a teetotaller! Just a 18D at breakfast whetted my appetite. Today's is 9A indeed! Delightful looking forward to the next 3 days.

  6. Doc - tough. Took an hour to finish. Why so much disgust, loathsome, spiteful, disgusting, creepy, revolting in the clues? Adjectives for Corona?
