A7 being a DD, career for speed is a verb, and career for calling is a noun. Is the clue not inconsistent?

DeleteFriends, as a newcomer to cryptic crosswords, I refer S. Parthasarathy's invaluable book titled 'Across, Down and Out of the Box' for guidance. Even then, often I feel like standing at a crossroads while solving cryptic crosswords, with anagrams behind, DDs ahead, hidden letters to the left and homophones to the right! Happy Aug 15th!
