    5. Straightaway with a bass guitar ?! May be you wanted her little fingers to strum on fewer strings !! Wish to see her as a lead guitarist !!! Does she croon too ?
Big CLAPS from me too !

    6. MB, you have taken it very seriously, she is just 2 plus and at the moment it hardly matters whether she is strumming a Lead, Rhythm or Base guitar. If I am not wrong she is a rhythm guitar, the photo was not meant to link to the answer in the clue literally.

Nice picture from Asterix ! Interesting comics after Tin Tin.

    1. Actually I rate Asterix better than Tin Tin. TT is just adventure whether you read it as a kid or as an adult. A is adventure when you read it as a kid and also quite a bit of humour when you read it as an adult and get all the gags. Beautifully translated by Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge. Have you seen Sean Connery, The Beatles etc. in A?

    2. Tin Tin by no means is anywhere close to Asterix be it content, illustration or whatever else you want to compare.

  9. In 'Tintin and the Picaros', one of the revellers in the Carnaval wears an Asterix costume. The reverse happens in Asterix in Belgium, where Thomson and Thompson make a guest appearance.

  10. Paddy,

Herge presented Filmmaker Satyajit Ray with a set of Tintin comics when he visited him in 1958. Ray showed this to Kolkata's Ananda Publishers on his return. Thus was the the ground laid for the cult vernacular following of the series in India.

Herge's connection with India changed and improved dramatically over the decades — from 'Cigars of the Pharaoh' serialized in Le Petit Vingtieme in 1932 through the play The Mystery of the Blue Diamond set in the kingdom of Padakhore, to Tintin in Tibet in 1962.

The upcoming Europalia festival in January, 2014 will focus entirely on India, and there will be an exhibition and a conference on "In India with Tintin".

    1. In Goa, we spell it as carnaval. Actually, it is the English spelling that is corrupted because carna vale means goodbye to meat. The festival is held just before the commencement of Lent.

  14. Kishore,

Your comments stimulate research and knowledge enhancement.

Panoramix is the original French name for the druid (Getafix in the English edition). In Germany, he is called Miraculix, in Serbia as Аспириникс (Aspiriniks from the drug Aspirin). In Hindi, he is called हकीम वैधिक्स (Hakeem Vaidhix), in Bengali, Etashetamix (এটাসেটামিক্স) meaning "mix this and that".

It may interest Suresh that among his magic potions, he has a potion to make hair grow quickly.

In software, PanoramiX was the name of an extension to the X Window System (later changed to Xinerama). It enables X applications and window managers to use two or more physical displays as one large virtual display.

  19. Thanks for the details on 'carnaval'.

IITM used to celebrate Mardi Gras (in its current avatar, it is being called Saarang since 1996). It had introduced Just-A-Minute and a new format Quiz in those days besides professional performances by some of the biggest names in music from M.S. Subbulakshmi and Sivamoni to Uriah Heap (rock band) and A.R. Rehman.

MG (Fr. for Fat Tuesday) is the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. As Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, this day is also referred to as Shrove Tuesday (shrive means 'confess').

    before
    the brisk PERT
Orental's step down = E moves down = PERT becomes PRET

    1. Thanks, NR Sir ! I was a bit confused with (-e) and (+e) in the Anno.

      Delete
    2. My earlier interptretation was why "E" was deleted and then added again ? Now I understand that the letter "E" from PERT has moved(stepped down) from it's original position to other place to become PRET. I could get Brisk = Pert alright and the subsequent word INTERPRET also. Now, Col Sir's annotation is clearly understood.

  23. Their performance was not in 1981, but in 1983 during their Indian tour.

  24. Thanks sir (NR) for the anno clarification. Still, trial in California doesnt make the grammatical sense needed for the anno isnt it. To get the sense needed it should be trial where California gets dismissed.
