    3. Good pun.
I understand from another Vizag friend that the rains for the last few days is actually much more than the Phailin rains.

  5. 6D Should it be 'a U.S. president' or ' an U.S. president'? Usually Arden is word perfect.

Reminded of the quiz: What do you call a cat and a U.S president? GARFIELD.

Just like Famous First Dogs, here are some Famous First Cats of the US

    1. It is 'a U.S. President' because U is pronounced you. It is an only if the word has a vowel sound.

  7. Suresh,
That is correct. Any word that starts with "U" where it is pronounced with the "you" sound will use "a": united, ukelele, university, U-shaped, useful, useless, uvula.

  8. The reference was to the different usage by Kishore in his opening remark.

  9. 19D : I took FASHION for 'the in thing'. I'd 'fish' for 'cod' but couldn't account for 'aon' and left it unfilled.

    2. Def: 'the in thing': Adjective = Fad·dish (fdsh) adj. from thefreedictionary.com.

I had thought 'the in thing' was a noun like fashion, I suppose means fashionable
