    1. The following is an entry from the Glossary givena t the end of the book 'From out of Clay & a few other stories of Narasiah' translated by C. G. Rishikesh (myself) and published by Palaniappa Brothers, Chennai:

      Quote

Poda - ‘Po’ in Tamil means ‘go’. The –da termination may be used when an elder addresses a younger male or among male contemporaries or out of disrespect to the male who is addressed.

      Quote ends

I think it was in Mouna Ragam, the Tamil movie, that in certain comic scenes a northerner is made to utter 'Poda madaya' - which means 'Go, you fool!'. As a language lover wanting to spread the knowledge of our vernaculars, I couldn't appreciate those scenes.

'da' is pronunced as in 'faluda'.

    2. Thanks CV, so the usage is present even in Tamil. I thought it was a karnataka phenomenon.
