  2. While the top of half went in easily, the bottom half took a while to unscramble..the German plane, Clavier, Sunder took some time to yield.
    Thanks Gridman.

    1. I had ft by u->ftu and stuck forever. That and atropine needed crossings. Others were cold solve. Gridman great for confidence boost mid-week

    2. Stuck and needed help in SW corner. Glad I was able to get 'thenceforward' (hardly used word nowadaya) and Luftwaffe with the help of crossings. I got stuck on'Micro' for a long time.
      Gridman is a confidence booster- yes 100%

    The reverse deletion of Atropine was nicely done.

    4. One of the attractions of Marina beach in the days of yore was the Juke box in Buhari's- making even non vegetarians go in!

    5. I had occasion to see and hear an old hand wound gramaphone with a big HMV (remember the dog?) loudspeaker. Those old records had only one song on each side.

    6. What is the gender of the dog? Reverberating question in all my mgmt classes abt lateral thinking.

    7. Have one hand wound gramophone. Doesn't work.

    8. A correction to my 9.12- I meant to say vegetarians, but mention Buharis and one automatically goes to the non veg side!

    14. Col, you would be surprised to know how many don't know the full form or fail to recollect immediately even today. I try it with every batch of mgmt students I teach.

    16. I OWN one made by Sanyo-- this is a three -in-one. an SW-MW radio+ a tape deck WITH a ten-record - stack up changer, bough in my bachelor days in Nairobi. It is still functional, though a bit scratchy due to lack of use. I teamed this up with a Kenwood amplifier+ a tape deck+ a record player- single with four speakers mounted on the walls- two in the living room and two in the dining area. I have also added a CD player to the whole outfit and can also now using an USB used to attach to my Note book for listening to music directly from the net. Recently, the Kenwood tape dck got dysfunctional and I had given it to a repairer who hunted high and low for a belt and it is now ok. My wife is insisting that I should trash the whole lot and buy a new Music system and I am resisting stoutly as I get full surround sound effect in the house , ;listening to all my vinyl records - plenty, of English classicss. I don't know whether CV and Deepak had seen this compact cabinet specially designed by me sitting in the corner of my living room, whn they visited me a couple of times here. CV brought back lots of old memories naming this as Record changer in his clue. If possible, I shall send a screen shot of this unit later. I love old music system and DO NOT intend disposing it off. They have teir roightful place in my house and heart !

      waffle = Anagram foddr
      about = Indicator for encircling
      small measure = FT
      by = Link connecter
      top = U

      That will become {L{FT}WAFFE*}{U}

      Delete
    2. Ft by U can also mean ft near u

      Delete
    3. Vasant "by" has a forward looking nature. Near is also forward looking when we say "short distance away"

      Delete
    4. By indicates near- we also say nearby or adjacent (could be either side)

      Delete
  7. I went back to my working sheet and checked.
    The noting is L (U FT) WAFFE*
    The anag of waffle goes around ft which is adjacent to u. Something adjacent to x can be on either side of x. The position is not indicated in the clue.

  10. The bouncer and the dancer - Part 12

    Leave it to (P)Smith?

    Smith was an army veteran having worked with the LUFTWAFFE. After retirement he being interested in the occult sciences spent a few years in a Kerala ashram. He came to be known as SUNDER Smith (SS!).

    Life in Shangri-la had turned HUMDRUM. The bouncer busy in his farm spraying GERMICIDE on the PEA GREENS. The dancer whiling away her time in IDLENESS.

    To pep up things a party was proposed for the ensuing New-year. There was plenty of local TALENT. A gentleman who could play the CLAVIER. Larry the LILLIPUT who was adept on the PICCOLO.
    Richard who said he would bring in his RECORD CHANGER.

    ICE CREAMS were to be offered on the house. The bar was fully stocked to cater to those who wished to TIPPLE.

    The local residents invited their friends and relatives too. Amongst that motley crowd was our SS who arrived on D-day with a girl wearing a MICRO-mini and cried out "Leave it to me. I will be the MC".
    Everone APPLAUDED.
    What happened next?
