There is hardly any word excluded in the A-list!!!
Can we take it as a reasonable list for crosswords?

    4. It has been quoted here before, repeatedly. So I took the easy way out. Will get back with more specific tomorrow. On escort to HM today, being holiday.

  5. 5D: Thought it was a charade because Flogs is plural. Flogs=Whip+Lash but whiplash itself means flog!

    1. Not my domain but is there a N vs V in the clue?

    2. WHIPLASH is also a type of neck injury which is the second part of the DD

    3. I took it as FLOG+FLOG where one flog for whip and the other for lash

    4. Ramki and KKR have together explained it well.

  6. Don’t I know.? Whiplash injury is caused in motor accidents when a sudden jerk of the car causes a body to lurch forward and backward of the head resulting in neck injuries, especially when tailgated. Special damages are paid for under a policy. That’s the reason why a seat belt helps in minimizing the jerk.

  7. Good Morning everybody ! Today's Bangalore edition of The Hindu is insipid and restraining the use of cross words and sentences I need to know as to why it is bereft of our daily dosage of the puzzle. I am totally clueless ! Can anyone throw some sound and light on this disappointing syndrome ?

I thought it was some spam message.
      Apologies Aristocrat Associates!
By the way, is it something like cryptic academy? Who is behind this Group? If you don't mind, disclose yourself.

  8. Score already means twenty, does it not? So the result of 31 across is fifty two!

    1. Where is the ambiguity Unknown? The annotation clearly states two scores as 2X20=40 plus ten is 50.
Is it not half of 4dn hundred?

  13. No Mr. Rao. It is not what you are assuming. The name Aristocrat Associates is my company's name founded in 1983 and from Bengaluru. I, S M Aziz the proprietor is a live and die hard addict since 1980 when I had shifted to South India and was introduced to The Hindu crossword by one Mr. Thirumala of Hosur. Mr. Thirumala is no more and was an intellectual and was actively connected with the Cultural Ministry & had spearheaded the Raj Kapoor delegation to USSR for the 'Awara' premiere.I am not academic enough to run an academy and I give myself 5 out of 10 in the test for solving crosswords. I would term my interest as a leaning process - spelling mistake intended. No need for apologies Mr. Rao.
