    2. I understood Col.'s interpretation as
      Resulting from- Impel (causing)
Eliminating 'e' from lack of energy
      (IMPL)*
Or if we take resulting as anind, 'from' would give impel.

    3. paddy, that is still an indirect

    4. one of the meanings of impel is to cause.

    5. So, Doc.'s interpretation of DD seems in order? Yes.

  5. 19A: Isn't "on a ship" redundant? SUB=coach going west, MARINE=soldier, to get SUBMARINE=underground vessel.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Marine is a soldier at sea, soldier on a ship, as against a foot soldier or an airforce man.

  9. 26a....Matinee usually denotes afternoon cinema. i am bit confusing that how come the word matinee matches with silver screen.

    1. The origin is in 1840's theatre with different meaning. Those were the times of evening and night plays only.(for serious patrons type). Matinee show then popularly attracted children/family as organised outing. Morning show or the 11am is a very late entrant.btw Matinee in French means morning.

    2. Silver screen also means the film industry
