  24. Since 29A has already been answered; anno of 30A:
    CH=Chemical
    E=Engineer
    ES=thESis essentially
    E=Oriental=Eastern
    RA: PROCESSED CHEESE (Def: Food Product)

    1. If someone else has a better anno..I don't think it is a reverse anagram.For it to be an RA, all the words of Cheese have to be there.

      Delete
    2. All are there as per your anno. CH E ES E.
      It has to be RA.

      Delete
    3. I also annotated in this way, although I didn't find CH=chemical any of my dictionaries. CH=Chemistry [freedictionary]
      Probably, AD tried a new combo of RA!!!

      Delete
    4. Then it is an Indirect Reverse Anagram!

      Delete
    5. Paddy, in RA, we should do some kind of anagram process too. In this clue, there is no process involved as the anno straightaway leads to CH+E+ES+E
      So, technically it is not RA

    6. Vasanth, 30A...Chemical Engineers I have considered as single entity. so, CE considered. But, here anno's taken separately...i.e chemical (CH) and Engineer (E)...but for sake of answer CH may exist....I may be wrong....pl.clarify

    7. Prassana: H cannot be justified if we don't take Chemical=CH

    8. Got it KKR. I did not notice it.

    9. thanks for the comment. had a well debate on 30A....with Paddy,Vasanth & KKR. one of the good puzzle provided by After Dark.

    10. It's not a reverse anagram. I tried something cheeky as a counterpart to 1A. ChE is an abbreviation for Chemical Engineer (reference Free Dictionary). Idea was that when you get ChE + ES + S, you have processed Cheese (as a word). Looks like it fell flat. Apologies.
