In my father's library in the late 1950s there was this paperback quiz book titled Ask Me Another by Hubert Philips. I remember thumbing through that book.
ReplyDeleteHe was a British economist, journalist, broadcaster, bridge player and organiser, composer of puzzles and quizzes (Wikipedia).
If you successfully answer a question in a club quiz show, you can proudly say "Ask me another." Or, if you're stumped by a question, you can sheepishly say the same thing.
Do you still have that book or remember its title and author?
ReplyDeleteEither way, it is surprising!
In today's quiz- Easy like Sunday Morning- the word 'Bibliomania' is quizzed about.
ReplyDeleteSay bibliophilia !
DeleteNo, I don't have that book or another similar slender volume by the same author. I also remember that it was a Ptarmigan imprint from the publisher Penguin. English dictionaries, grammar books,. standard English and English usage books were aplenty.
ReplyDeleteBlogged by Col. well in advance of his retreat?!
ReplyDeleteYes, as TH Sunday crossword is behind by some seven or eight weeks from the original, he is steps ahead in blogging this particular crossword.
Delete13Ac Entree popularly is understood as main course (despite its classical French meaning).
ReplyDeleteWe used to joke ourselves: we are designated start-up but are called middleman (entre:in between, preneur:take(ing) Part.
