  1. 25A- is the position of 'over' in the clue correct? It is actually 'The French is over hesitation',isn't it?

    1. agree. the clue can be solved without "over" (actually ignoring over is the only way!), and also does not change the surface meaning. including it misdirects.

My dad used to refer to the loft as attam to stow away unused and unwanted items.this place used to be a treasure trove for archival items.s ,& a hideout for rats and vermin. Is this word derived from Attic ? My Keralite friends can throw some light on this etymological co _ relation between Greek and Malayalam. 😘

  9. The Tamil word is paran (பரண்). In Kannada it is 'atta' - anyway that's how we used to call it. Lofts were in my paternal grandfather's house in Madras and my maternal grandfather's house in CBE.

    1. Very cryptic hint for deleting As'.
This QUIPTIC grid usually comes in the Guardian on every Monday.
Surprisingly, we find the above grid today and the date mentioned inside is some 1933 date!
However, it stands deleted now, with the following note:
This puzzle was launched early in error and under an incorrect series. It will be republished on the correct date.

    2. Its easy. The date of publishing is queued based on the number. The cryptic is at 27500+. Someone mistakenly number it 1041. So the computer took it to mean the date of publishing by so many days and immediately published.

  13. I thought 15A could be BARTER as well
