Dr RKE's TalePiece

A spider's biography

Srivathsan Santhanam (SS) was the ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE of the literary club of NIT, Trichy. He was known for his SUCCESSFUL ACCOMPLISHMENT in word puzzles. He  WELCOMED the chance to INTRODUCE his friends to a wide SPECTRUM of word puzzles. They had until then only been building a BULL like physical STAMINA in the gym, but now they LEARNT to LOVE the mental CHALLENGE that the puzzles posed. The pastime was a good antidote to the DEPRESSION caused by a low CGPA, much better than taking ACID.They would sit in front of their SYSTEMs all night, solving puzzles, fueled by the tea, that FLOWED unendingly from the night KITCHEN in the mess. The exercise RESTORED the confidence in their vocabulary. To RAISE the bar further, SS introduced a game, in which his friends would pick out an ENVELOPE from a CONTAINER, which had one word penciled in. They had to make 3 cryptic clues for that word. The CRITERION was not just the time they took but also the NEAT surface reading and fairness of the wordplay. His ALLIES participated with unABATED enthusiasm. They crowned SS with the title 'The  spINNER', for he had drawn them in to the web of word puzzles.
