    4. Yes. CV sir set grids that were mildly challenging encouraging solver to think laterally while providing some easy clues that helped with crossing letters. The word play was awesome. Om shanti.

    1. Thanks, Ajeesh. This was set in a hurry yesterday morning, so there might be a few rough edges. In the last clue for example, I see that "sailing" was unnecessary, just "ship" would have worked. Maybe it adds a bit of misdirection as a solver might think it is an anagrind...

  16. A themed Tribute to the Greatest Setter of The Hindu by Incognito. It is still difficult come to terms with the fact that Gridman has left this earthly abode. Needless to say I was least happy to complete this puzzle in shortest time.

  24. Gridman not with us anymore makes me feel like looking at a grid without clues. His clues were simple and challenging with wordplay at best.

    Today's grid is an excellent tribute for the great yet simple man who has kept scores of people get their thinking hats at all times.

    When I started solving The Hindu crosswords a few years back, Gridman grids always made our little beginner group feel so welcome. They weren't intimidating, but also had that joy of cracking a puzzle. Long before we had found this blog, we regarded Gridman as a familiar friend.

  51. Thank you for your tribute to our friend Rishi, Kishore. He would be happy. I remember his last email which he ended with the phrase "Hitch your wagon to the stars" . Even as he wished us well
    maybe he had the premonition. A great soul. Feel privileged and happy to have known him.
