ReplyDeleteWell solved Sridhar.
DeleteRe reiterated nicely. Simple, isn't it? (once you see it!)
ReplyDeleteMissed the trick in 27A (literally!)
ReplyDeleteTurn the corner- not the best way to mark a page. I came to it last after exhausting page markers.
We are used to folding the corner.
Delete24d- Bar=Rod. In a Dr.X CW, bar generally means something else!!
ReplyDeleteOR is an abbreviation for 'Other Ranks'
ReplyDeleteDr X has raised the bar considerably today. Many Clues took time to parse, but were enjoyable all the same. Sense of definite satisfaction after solving.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mr Prasad!
Delete5D brought a chuckle in me!
ReplyDeleteWell, I too happened to be in the same boat as you!!!
DeleteHowever, it was my OTM (one track mind) that regaled me though unsure about all others..
That's the idea!
ReplyDeleteWhy is Tantrum = PET?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/another-word-for/tantrum.html
DeletePet as a noun also means "a fit of sulkiness"
DeleteThanks!
DeleteYou ‘fold the corner’, not ‘turn the corner’ to mark a book page.
ReplyDeleteHi Sachin! I did research this. Can read below link.
Deletehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_ears
This is the relevant extract from above -
Dog-earing is also commonly used to mark a section or phrase in a book that one finds to be important or of personal meaning. Other names for this practice include page folding and corner turning.
The straight definition provided is 'Improve' = turn the corner which is an idiomatic phrase. Since turn and fold are synonymous, the literal definition need not be precise...some folks might turn the corner of the page, others might fold it. At any rate you cannot get 'fold the corner' from 'Improve', can you?
Thanks 🙏
ReplyDeleteWell done Gemini.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful puzzle that flowed smoothly and a treat to solve.
