25A. The whole clue was intended as a defintion. Semi & lit
ReplyDeleteTough and enjoyable. Once Non Compos Mentis was solved, everything fell in place including the unheard of actor and had to google for Kirby Grip.
ReplyDeleteThank you Avtaar for the Monday morning challenge.
+1
DeleteFortunately, I remember the actor.
But is it ok to call an actor, dead long back, a leading actor? Ha ha!!
Yul Brynner was a famous actor during my school/college days. I think his best movie was The King and I for which he got an Oscar
Delete"THE KING AND I"
His role in "The Ten Commandments" is still fresh in my memory.
DeleteThe King and I, The Magnificent Seven etc are some of his best performances. His bald pate was a trademark
DeleteUnheard of? I even remember his dialogue 'Farewell my one time brother' as Ramses in Ten Commandments. And if I am right he came in Magnificent Seven also ( remake of Seven Samurai ). So for Y made it easy :)
DeleteVery famous actor starting with Ten Commandments during good old college days- probably the first famous one with a clean shaven plate.
DeleteIt seems everyone has heard of him except me :-)
DeleteTook time and google help. Nevertheless enjoyed. My favourites are 23Ac and 16Dn.
ReplyDeleteThanks DNM. ๐
DeleteThanks for trying and the feedback ๐
ReplyDeleteNone of the novices/non-regulars(who are bnot expert solvers) want to take a Snooker shot at 23A :-)

DeleteIf you look at it, it is not a difficult clue to solve. But the thing is to find snooker means 'thwart' also.
DeleteIt's not a total anagram ART is not anagrammed if it is, it becomes indirect
DeleteYes. Misplaced bracket(with asterisk)
DeleteVery tough one today. Nearly half left unsolved!
ReplyDeleteBut I remember Yul Brynner! The King and I, Ten Commandments, Taras Bulba?
Miss Chaturvasi Sir and his most enjoyable Crosswords.
