  2. An aside on Heron-
A few years back we visited Vedanthangal, a bird sanctuary about 50 miles south of Chennai. A guide took us around and wanted to show off that he knew the names of birds in English. Pointing to a bird he called it-"Pandu karikaran". It took me a long while to decipher it as "Pond Grey Heron"!
