Thanks for taking the time to blog on a Sunday morning!
ReplyDeleteLuckily I saw your mail
DeleteNice puzzle. Favorites: UNOPENED and BAZAAR
ReplyDeleteFor TH, 74+1 = 77
ReplyDelete75 and 76 are invisible Crosswords
Delete14a) from where does the extra T come from?
ReplyDeleteGood catch! This is indeed a mistake, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteHappy Ramnavami to all.
ReplyDeleteLovely artwork and Rangoli.
Thank You Col. for blogging the Puzzle and Gussalufz for providing highly entertaining puzzle.
What is Shohre Expanse?
ReplyDeleteThe Expanse, tv series.
Delete28a) a technical doubt.. is it fine for the definition to be in the middle of a clue?
ReplyDeleteOnly done in a composite anagram, which is what 28a is. See https://www.crosswordunclued.com/2011/01/composite-anagrams.html
DeleteYes,we have gone through this before also. Composite anagrams are a difficult to spot and parse. I think the same holds good for writing the clue as well.
DeleteI don't think the clue type specifically permits or denies this.
DeleteThis clue could very well be written as: super samosa is fried, A pro guesses.
The art of CA lies in when the words (that include the deg) are single words or phrases (like A pro, here).
Follow-up query when tax is unsettled by the end of August (4,4)
ReplyDeleteI'll fix it to this in my own copy, with a note that it was in error when published.
End of August is tax filing deadline in U.S.?
DeleteApril 18. I was just scanning the signed copies 5 minutes ago 🙃
DeleteYour notes are indeed great!
ReplyDeleteLucky to get this Gussalufz CW on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThank you Col. & MB.
Thoughtful of Col. to have blogged it.
Being= Qua- I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteJust got it through Google. Sorry. I should have done it first before asking.
ReplyDeleteHere are my notes for this crossword:
ReplyDeleteThe theme of this crossword is The Expanse, a series of science fiction novels by James S. A. Corey, as well as a spectacular TV series.
Running down the 9th column, you can find EXPANSE as a nina. Running down the 6th column is SHOHREH: another nina, which is the first name of the brilliant actress, Shohreh Aghdashloo, who plays the role of UN Secretary General Chrisjen Avasarala in the TV show.
In addition, the following solution entries are thematic:
2d. GRAVITY.
6d. SPACE.
8d. MARS.
11a. SHIPS.
21d. DRUMMER.
26d. BELT.
This puzzle is a pangram.
The clue for 14a, as originally published, had a mistake. It read:
14 Follow-up query when tax is misappropriated (4,4)
The anagram in this was missing T.
Thank you for the notes Ratnakar. I always look forward to it since it is very informative.
DeleteOne of my regular TV show. Plus the surname Avasarala is a Telugu surname.
DeleteMaking the UN secy easy to remember.
14A has been updated in online version now
ReplyDeleteSometimes TH is strangely prompt. A couple of days ago a correction appeared in the print edition of the previous day's CW.
DeleteWhat time is it for you Ajeesh?
DeleteThe editor should have caught that IMO. Instead we see incorrect changes to proper clues and enumeration, unfortunately.
DeletePaddy,
533AM. I sleep at Braahmamuhoortham!
I usually make my THC crosswords freely available for interactive solving on my own web site (gussalufz.com), about 4 months after their publication. When I release this one, it will include my "mea culpa" note. I've now edited the text to also credit the error-spotter.
ReplyDeleteIt now reads:
-----------------
The clue for 14a, as originally published, had a mistake. It read:
14 Follow-up query when tax is misappropriated (4,4)
The anagram in this was missing a T. Being a Sunday THC, this crossword was only published online, and the clue was amended shortly after the error was spotted (I was alerted about the mistake by Abhishek Sridhar on The Hindu Crossword Corner blog).
-----------
Abhishek, please let me know if you prefer to not have your name included in my note.
Thanks!
