Asymmetric grid!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the grid fill at 17A, 22D necessitated that. But with no 3 consecutive unches, it is OK, I think.
DeleteMallu, uncanny and longest would have given a symmetric grid.

ReplyDeleteAnd beautiful Ramanavami artwork by Prasanna and Gowri !
Thanks Argo. Have a Good day
DeletePerhaps is indeed apropos in this case, since a Tsar is only one of the many instances/examples of a monarch. Tsar in the general sense is only used for any controlling authority or tyrant.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting also to understand what kind of clues appeal to our THCC community, and what it takes for a setter to gain popularity and recognition easily among the group. Aristotle equated democracy with mob rule and said it should be mixed with oligarchy. Of course, this was much before the Russian revolution ended the reign of Tsars and gave rise to oligarchs. But look at Russia today. Aristotle’s recommended blend of democracy and oligarchy twisted into an unholy poisonous nexus like the hemlock he refused to drink when charged with defying conventional wisdom.
Oh well, while they crossed swords, we can always do crosswords :)
Thank you:) 🙏
ReplyDeleteHappy Rama navami !
ReplyDeleteArtwork by Prasanna & Gowri, WOW superb :)
