Here's my list of what's remaining:
ReplyDeleteAcross: 1, 8, 16, 18, 23
Down: 2, 3, 5, 10, 17, 22
Today it like trying to bite a hardened CHEGODI( a savoury from AP/ TG)
ReplyDelete8a, national = [R(wand)an]
ReplyDeleteFled = ran
Thrice with = wi + the = wand
Thrice means to a large degree
Don't know whether annotation is right. Not convinced myself
Hi RR, the intended anno is different. Ran for fled is good.
ReplyDeleteThe anno for this is a bit complicated, or one may say it is twisted. We can debate later.
ReplyDeleteWith = and ?
ReplyDeleteDoes with define 'w' as well as 'and'
[R(W)(AND) AN]
ReplyDeleteIt is 4 PM now. So many left. Should be open to anyone.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacob,
DeleteColonel has defined the rules.
I think it is open after 6:00 pm
Yes, that's it. That's what "thrice with" is supposed to indicate. And one "with" is a containment indicator.
ReplyDeletetricky, but nice one.
DeleteAnnos are a bit twisted for sure. I got all the answers(I hope so). But 3-4 annos I am not sure.
Delete👍
DeleteMentioning the theme explicitly, though many of you have figured it out:
ReplyDelete"She", "He", etc. wherever they appear, represent an Indian Prime Minister.
And all of our PMs make an appearance.
I assume Gulzarilal Nanda doesn't count as he was only an acting prime minister.
DeleteYa, I didn't count him.
Deleteok thanks. Becuase of the twisted annos, at one point I was trying to fit in "nanda" in one of the clues :-)
DeleteThen 22D must be Singh, though I am unable to parse.
Delete22D refers to "they". So, i guess it includes both the singhs - vp singh and manmohan singh.
Delete3D- 'Guarantee' fits in wit the crossings. I think it must be a clue which is part of the theme and without specific definition. But which leader? I am unable to spot the leader who gave a guarantee.
ReplyDeleteModi ka guarantee😀
DeleteSathia
:) :) :)
Delete2D- Omniana- Miscellaneous (def)
ReplyDeleteEverything- Omni
Articles- An,A
I got this after a lot of google search.
...and with the crossings,- except GG is a horse.
1A- Groggy. Def.is lethargic. Wordplay not clear.
My best efforts to clear up a few.
I too got groggy sir.though gg( gee gee is horse). This far n no further
Delete23a STOUNDS = Pains
ReplyDelete(- a) STOUNDS = endless surprises
17d PLAGUED = Beleaguered
ReplyDeletePLA = Army
G(-l)UED = Stuck together when left out
28a OBAMA = He, from the west
ReplyDeleteI also thought the same as it fits the grid. But ghaza told wherever HE appears, it refers to an Indian prime minister. Who is being referred here ?
DeleteHe is an intruder into the grid from West
Delete:) :)
DeleteSorry typo, 18a
ReplyDeleteYes, 18a is Obama. That's why the clue refers to him as an intruder. No personal offence intended.
ReplyDeleteHere's what's left:
ReplyDeleteAcross: 16
Down: 5, 10, 22
Oh, 22d has been solved by Paddy-Sir at 16:54
ReplyDeleteBut I could not parse. Help needed.
DeleteAs Kiran mentioned, it alludes to V. P. Singh and Manmohan Singh.
DeleteMy interpretation is V. P. Singh's biggest claim to fame was implementation of the Mandal Commission, and Manmohan Singh's was the Nuclear Deal.
Mandal commission was for Backward Classes.
Delete5d HOHOL
ReplyDeletea little liquid = L
hydrogen peroxide = H2O2 = HHOO
(LHHOO)* = HOHOL
def: a word used to hurt Ukranians
Yes :)
Delete5d HOHOL; primarily used to hurt an East European (a derogatory term for an UKranian); a litt;e liquid=L hydroger peroxide is H2O2 (HHOO). Solution is the anagram indicator.
ReplyDeleteYes :)
Delete10d BLOCKHEAD; mug; HOCK BLED for Spooner
ReplyDeleteYes :)

ReplyDelete16a ISOPLETH: contour: Do not know how it specifically relate to oximeter.
ReplyDeletestandard = ISO
Deleteoximeter = pleth
Pleth is an abbreviation for plethysmograph, which is a graphical representation of the signal from a pulse oximeter over time
thank you
DeleteIn 1ac, senior is gray, no = o (for zero), I think I've seen that usage in clues sometimes, and horse is gg
ReplyDeleteAll clues have been solved.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone who spent time on this puzzle.
Do tell me if there are any questions about intended annotations.
ReplyDeleteNow I feel this puzzle was far more twisted than I earlier thought it was.
ReplyDeleteThe anno for 19d is pending.
ReplyDeleteAnyone wants to give that one ??
Reference to Rajiv Gandhi. Anything more?
DeleteYes, nothing more than that
DeleteWho else but Rajiv Gandhi?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunate he was assassinated.
Yes
DeleteIsopleth- some indication about the abbreviation should have been given.
ReplyDeleteActually, Geegee is a horse and again a hokonym indicator us needed. I was able to get that part ot it anyway.
As you said quite a few clues were twisted.
Ok, got it.
Delete19D, this clue is for Rajiv, who was an aviator before joining politics.
ReplyDeleteMy parsing is aorta is vessel which is reverse of raj, jar is vessel along with it.
A(vi)ator. Not sure!
Sathia
Hi Sathia,
DeleteI hadn't thought anything more than pilot is the meaning, it's a clue to include Rajiv Gandhi in the puzzle, and the surface reading says he was a trained pilot once
Not it but iv
