  1. Good morning friends

    A few doubtful ones, although filled in: Across 9, 19, 23, 25. Down - 1, 20, 21

    Liked BUCKRAM, WAR MUSEUM, OBSTINATE, A HARD DAY'S WORK, TACTLESS, MARCEAU, NUMBER, ADHESION and some others.

    Special mention: HEE-HAW and INKWELL.

  3. 2 Remains, with props in place (5,2) STAYS IN {STAYS} {IN}

    Although it doesn't hurt the crossings and this answer is valid, the setter's intention might be STAYS (props), ON (in place)

  5. Thank you for your concern,Richard. Chennai (nee,Madras) was spared and Mahabalipuram/ Kalpakkam took the brunt. As per initial reports, the damage seems to be milder than anticipated.

    I tend to agree with Bhavan on 'stays on'.
    Filled in 'a hard day's work' and got stuck for placebo. A revelation for this meaning of placebo.

    2. I should add Chennai was spared - once more. We have been escaping, from cyclone, year after year.

  7. Filled spline (spliff was a new word for me) without a good explanation for "ne" and got stuck with 27A. Enjoyed the crossword nevertheless.

  8. Why are the cyclones and hurricanes, so furious always, and wreaking so much of damage, being named after women in most cases? It is unfair, in my opinion. Doesn't it call for a protest?

    What do our women participants here feel about it?

  9. The names used to vaguely irk me too! Then recently I heard in the FM radio about a fully planned list of cyclone names! My curiosity aroused googled for more info:

    BTW, there must be truth in our vernacular proverb:
    aavathum peNNaalE, azivathum peNNaalE'!!!

  11. Interesting article. And maybe Nilam is not to be pronounced Neelam, Neelaam, meaning auctioning. A term often used in Hindi movies when one auctions their entire property because of being ruined financially.

  12. One suggestion - the clues like 1 Across and poetic reference may be annotated as 'Lit.', rather than 'GK' presently.
