The weather here in Bangalore makes me feel like I am in Ooty. Not complaining about the excess of CD etc as I got all of them right away besides the weather keeping me cool!!

ReplyDeleteA few doubtful ones, although filled in: Across 9, 19, 23, 25. Down - 1, 20, 21
Liked BUCKRAM, WAR MUSEUM, OBSTINATE, A HARD DAY'S WORK, TACTLESS, MARCEAU, NUMBER, ADHESION and some others.
Special mention: HEE-HAW and INKWELL.
19 Second key to put a text message through (4) SEND {S}{E}ND Not sure of Anno
ReplyDeleteS + END (key below Home on a standard keyboard)
2 Remains, with props in place (5,2) STAYS IN {STAYS} {IN}
ReplyDeleteAlthough it doesn't hurt the crossings and this answer is valid, the setter's intention might be STAYS (props), ON (in place)
+1
DeleteThinking of all our friends on the Coromandel coast - Trust everything is fine with you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your concern,Richard. Chennai (nee,Madras) was spared and Mahabalipuram/ Kalpakkam took the brunt. As per initial reports, the damage seems to be milder than anticipated.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with Bhavan on 'stays on'.
Filled in 'a hard day's work' and got stuck for placebo. A revelation for this meaning of placebo.
Thanks, Paddy. But we could have THCC blogger friends those places as well.
DeleteI should add Chennai was spared - once more. We have been escaping, from cyclone, year after year.
Deletecartoon for 'grass' was 'exception'al!
ReplyDeleteFilled spline (spliff was a new word for me) without a good explanation for "ne" and got stuck with 27A. Enjoyed the crossword nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteWhy are the cyclones and hurricanes, so furious always, and wreaking so much of damage, being named after women in most cases? It is unfair, in my opinion. Doesn't it call for a protest?
ReplyDeleteWhat do our women participants here feel about it?
May be you would find answer in William Congreve "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"! Just in lighter vein, with due apologies tothe ladies!
DeleteThe names used to vaguely irk me too! Then recently I heard in the FM radio about a fully planned list of cyclone names! My curiosity aroused googled for more info:

BTW, there must be truth in our vernacular proverb:
aavathum peNNaalE, azivathum peNNaalE'!!!
Well said ma'am, as they say "Shiva without Shakti is Shava".
DeleteTamil teriyad. Konja translate pandringe.
DeleteBoth creation & destruction are by women. Now I am sure it will fall in place for you.
ReplyDeleteInteresting article. And maybe Nilam is not to be pronounced Neelam, Neelaam, meaning auctioning. A term often used in Hindi movies when one auctions their entire property because of being ruined financially.
ReplyDeleteOne suggestion - the clues like 1 Across and poetic reference may be annotated as 'Lit.', rather than 'GK' presently.
ReplyDeleteNice one from Gridman.
ReplyDeleteBack to base. So regular programme ( i.e ABCDE ) should resume tomorrow.
Welcome back Ramesh. Missing your comments and daily clues.
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteLiked 8D. Nice clue
