Excellent opener from Arden. Enjoyed it
ReplyDeleteExcellent start- a preview of things to come?
ReplyDeleteEsurient was totally new.
1A- 'up' as a reversal indicator in a/c clue? 'door' reversal is ok, but 'owes'?
Thanks CV and Sandhya
ReplyDeleteGood crossword. THC has really come a long way in the past one year. The crosswords have become better, more challenging and enjoyable. Wonder how we lived through the days of NJ and Manna and the frequent printos and other faus pas
ReplyDelete21 Suspect something fishy about a WI batsman (5,1,3) SMELL A RAT {SMEL{L A RA}T}
ReplyDeleteInitially suspected there is grammatical mistake - Why past tense of SMELL is used and where is the indicator for the same? Only when I referred to the dictionary I could find SMELT also means trout like silvery fish. Could appreciate the clue after that only. Good CW from Arden with excellent cluing as usual.
Enjoyed the opener immensely. Looking forward to next week.
ReplyDeleteNice one from Arden as usual. I needed to confirm Isostasy & esurient using a dictionary.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff, challenging and satisfying. I think ESURIENT came in THC within the last 3-4 months. (CV's database would know!)

DeleteHaving a ball at Coimbatore meeting up with my school friends from 1967 at the Sesquicentennial celebration of my school 'Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School' tonight is the Social and Ball, which is the final event, hopefully all will go off well as the event tends to get rowdy at times.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, tomorrows special is by Lightning and has a barred grid, so there will be no Across Lite version
ReplyDeleteI needed to look here (http://www.crosswordunclued.com/2009/03/barred-grid-crosswords.html) to find out about barred grid crosswords. I have never attempted one before. Looking forward to it.
DeleteESURIENT was in a crossword (THC 7731 on July 22, 2003) set by Gridman when crosswords carried no byline.
