  1. Not having a cocktail while spiking a drink (7)
    LAC(K)ING

    'Not having' is def.
    cocktail - K (the last letter of cock or the tip of the cock, if you will)
    LACING, as you know, is spiking or adding one drink to another

  4. Excellent start- a preview of things to come?
    Esurient was totally new.
    1A- 'up' as a reversal indicator in a/c clue? 'door' reversal is ok, but 'owes'?

  5. Good crossword. THC has really come a long way in the past one year. The crosswords have become better, more challenging and enjoyable. Wonder how we lived through the days of NJ and Manna and the frequent printos and other faus pas

  6. 21 Suspect something fishy about a WI batsman (5,1,3) SMELL A RAT {SMEL{L A RA}T}

    Initially suspected there is grammatical mistake - Why past tense of SMELL is used and where is the indicator for the same? Only when I referred to the dictionary I could find SMELT also means trout like silvery fish. Could appreciate the clue after that only. Good CW from Arden with excellent cluing as usual.

  12. Having a ball at Coimbatore meeting up with my school friends from 1967 at the Sesquicentennial celebration of my school 'Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School' tonight is the Social and Ball, which is the final event, hopefully all will go off well as the event tends to get rowdy at times.

    1. I needed to look here (http://www.crosswordunclued.com/2009/03/barred-grid-crosswords.html) to find out about barred grid crosswords. I have never attempted one before. Looking forward to it.
