  2. +1
In 25D I was trying to ignore S, being the 2nd letter!

    1. I would have done the same for any other setter. With Gridman no. Like 19d old:ancient. The rest is a learning input (no googling). I take it that Iago must be some old flag bearer.

    2. Iago was Othello's flag bearer in the Shakespearean play. Perhaps the greatest fictional villain ever created.

    3. Much has been written about Iago. I would recommend Christie's Curtain:Poirot's Last Case

  3. Very enjoyable puzzle from Gridman. 1A and 26A are examples of the type of clues that will attract one not familiar with cryptic crosswords to get attracted.

  4. I liked the word play in 1&8 down. Gridman never fails to be different.

Nice to return after a week’s sojourn in dazzling Dubai ,spending my birthday there , all golden glitz and glitter. A mini Kerala -Punjabi melting pot with an eclectic metropolitan city. Welcome cooling rains in Coimbatore. It took only 25 minutes of flight time from a stopover in Goa , but 90 minutes to reach home from the airport , crawling through bottle neck jam all through . From virtual paradise to actual down to earth reality !

  5. That is going to be the future. Flying (by whatever means) to the nearest point and walk the rest of the way!
I recently read about a hoverjet, which is basically a mini jet tied to one's back and with that he crossed over from France to England with a couple of stopovers on mobile (boat) bases for refuelling with Kerosene!
