ReplyDeleteGreat clue 14A. Stonework of Madonna bearing child:MA+SON(RY)
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteArtistic utilisation of "Madonna (The Virgin Mary) and child"
Actually this an old chestnut with the WP son inside Mary
DeleteBeauty of a puzzle! Spoilt in choice for CODs. The gems are scattered all around!
ReplyDelete7d also works for ETHER. ET + mostly HERE.
ReplyDeleteindependently, yes. but not with crossing.
DeleteWhat a coincidence. 8d is clued in Today's Times Quick Cryptic (TQC 1417 by Oink) as Keep quiet about sex? No problem.
ReplyDeleteLovely puzzle with many outstanding clues. Just one question on 1D, should there not be an indication in the wp that wafer is a anagram of the fodder (a few r)*?
ReplyDeleteTo make is the indicator. As given in the blog it is a CA(Composite or Compound anagram?) R to be added to A few to make wafer.
DeleteYes I did get that its a CA. Make as anagram indicator..well it could have been make poor wafer, or something similar? I defer to the opinions of the more knowledgeable, of course.
Delete"To make" is anag on the fodder on left side. In CA "Some" is iike x in x+2=4. So (x,r to make water).
DeleteThanks.
