  1. BOWLED over by the charm of this cricket fare. Unaffected by the Saturday morning ASTHENIA, could RUN through this grid without getting STUMPED as the clues were all LEGIT. Could not CATCH the relevance of "a checkout" in 18A. Though WINDJAMMER fell last, can't say I really got the wordplay (even after Ramesh's colour coded annotation).

    1. Is it story (write up) minus Y?

      Delete
    2. There is no play on story here. Otherwise, one has to seek clarity on absence of Y.
      Write-up is reversal indicator. spoils=rots

    3. Thank you KKR. I took spoils as reversal indicator for story. My fault. Prasad's cryptic comment left me in more confusion!

  9. It helps if the theme is a sport that you passionately follow and the two long ones immediately fall, otherwise to get such words as Asthenia, Ensiform and Windjammer would have been very difficult. Thanks to Neyartha for the weekend Cricket treat.

  10. The theme made it easy. Got all except 18A. In 19D, why is "the gate" AND?
