  2. 27 - The answer I had was On my word - MON(e)Y* + WORD (MS Word - software from Microsoft)

    20D Is (t)HORNED

Would like to see what the solvers / setters here thought of the clue like 4D - It’s a Rebus at best and has no definition. We used to do a lot of these in Facebook forums where someone or other would then put it down since it isn’t a proper clue. Hard to solve on a stand alone basis, though I got Upside down, nearly immediately, I thought it was roll and then corrected to Cake - though won’t think of bun as a cake.

    3. +1 for 20d.
Clues like 4d once in a while does give you the PDM but it has to be a valid expression like scrambled eggs for gegs. Not sure Upside-down cake is one.

  3. re 4. It is an occasional clue. Such clues may need some crossings before they can be confidently solved. I think THC has had some such clues now and then. However, here the term UPSIDE DOWN CAKE is not a familiar phrase in our country or is it? In an case I have not seen it much less eaten. How does it look like? Also, isn't there a difference between a bun (face down or face up) and a cake? They are baked food but surely there MUST be a difference to make them so equivalent.

    1. I have not only made but also eaten a “pineapple upside down cake”. The name comes from the fact that, you start by putting the pineapple slices (usually rings) at the bottom of the baking dish and then add the other stuff over it. After baking you turn the cake over and the pineapple rings form the decorative top part of the cake. It’s delicious and was quite “fun” - I still don’t see the “bun” though :)

    2. Thanks. It's like doing a headstand and then turning over so the head is where it should be.

On the tip of one's tongue - which end?
Tip of the nose - which end?
Tip of the pen - which end?
