Delete17D UNEATABLE = That cannot be consumed { UN+E+A, two articles,UN,A and English, E, TABLE board}
ReplyDeleteUne itself is a French article
DeleteExactly. English artivle gives E.
DeleteSorry it gives a
DeleteOmce again Col has left just the right clue for solving by non-regulars. Can be easily got from the letter string, but there's a slight catch there which may perhaps delay solution by a few seconds even for the regulars.
ReplyDelete12 D The number of people - Person who renders people "numb". ANAESTHETIST - Is it a CD?
ReplyDeleteWe react only to the size of the number;
DeleteA progress from being numb to number.
I had jotted down the above lines when COVID was at its peak. Thanks Gridman!
Gridman is in fine form in this enjoyable puzzle. Anaesthetist, tool pusher, Keynote and Elfin ( which was nicely hidden). Thank you Gridman.
ReplyDelete+1.All good picks.
DeleteCould be a DD- is what you mean?
ReplyDeleteIt was my Aha moment- I had to get it from the blog. Just superb. Though I had come across and solved number as anaesthetist,it fooled me this time- probably the way it was constructed.

ReplyDeleteYour pic for MONOKINI. It seems to be a bikini connected with belts, exposing the wearer's midriff. I would think that a monokini is a single piece of swimwear not exposing the waist. Saying this with bookish knowledge. I have not hung around cabanas,
Freedictionary includes a topless bikini as a meaning of the term
DeleteI think what you have in mind is the traditional (old?) one. This is probably one of the modern variations. As long as it is a single connected piece,it fits the bill.
DeleteThis is an image in the Wikiaedia page for Monokini, the other images shown on the same page were as explained by Suresh, as such I could not put them here
DeleteWell, when I first came across the word, I had not looked it up in a dictionary. I must have been an innocent young boy keenly interested in the language and also quite an alert student. Knowing that bikini is a two-piece garment (bi = two), I concluded monokini is a single piece garment. And, out of my then innocence, I thought it referred to the single piece covering most part of the wearer. Those were the times when modesty in life was still there. It has taken me more than 50 years to know what exactly a monokini is. Ah, one lives and learns. .I thank the Col for posting a pic that is appropriate to his audience or should I say sightseers (sight in the sense Tamilians use it).
DeleteBikini also seems to be not bi-kini but the nuclear test site bikini atoll!
DeleteAll nice clues. My best pick is of course, anaesthetist. I liked 10a, 17d, and 22d.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, in the main post, in annotation for 29a, needles has been wrongly typed as NEDDLES
