      Delete
    2. I thought each is the alter ego of the other. But yes. Jekyll is the original. So Hyde is the alter ego - perhaps.

      Delete
    3. Yes Hyde is Jekyll's alter ego, so i could have reversed the order. But i thought of using 'change' that followed..... not a good idea perhaps :)

  26. One small doubt - why is everyman I'd?
Twice it is clued here. So want to clarify.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I picked that up from the Sunday cryptic over the years...there Everyman is synonymous with 'me' or 'I'. So everyman would becomes I'd....

      Delete
    2. I thought so. Sunday cryptic everyman isnthe setter. Setter in first person is I. So you should have used guns instead of everyman.

      Delete
    3. Actually the setter of the puzzle appearing in The Sunday Observer( and with a time lag in The Hindu) is Everyman. You cannot put Everyman for I. You may have put Commander.

    4. well said by Vasanth. first time it appears the word everyman. But without seening i was trying the anno. as 'ALL' by over cofindent as the word everyone.

  41. Some feedback for improvement, if I may ? 27A. A TRINITY is not a regular or valid phrase. LOW-RATED also doesnt seem to be a phrase in the dictionaries. Phrases and idioms that are not standard (or a common term one could find in Wiki, say) arent usually used

  43. Thanks for the special Guns. I thought I will add my feedback (not including root issues :)) here since I noticed there are so many non standard abbreaviaitons in this puzzle. Everyman = I already discussed

    8 A - Salt = S, Clove = C?
    20 D - Family = F, God = G?
    23 D - Larry = L, Diana = D?
32 A - Divine = DD? (Should be doctor of divinty or theologist)
15 A - Limit = TL? Rising cannot be used as a reversal ind in an across clue
13A - The clue needs saint instead of priest IMO since it is an abbreviation
18D - Hard is an anagrind?
    9A - End = E?
    31A - Express = E?
    16D - Expression = E, Rhythm = R?

    ReplyDelete
  44. 15ac - i thought rising is tall & hence tall limit is TL.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But there is no abbreviation as tall limit = TL!

      Delete
  45. No i mean take the outer letters - limit

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Don't think rising is tall. Raised up could be tall. Also Limit is singular.
Limit as Lt and rising as rebelling could be justified. But always better to avoid such ambiguity.
