Plea = prayer, overwhelming THOR, the Norse god.

    25 A - OBESE = plump
    O+BEES*

    7D - POTENTIAL (CD, I guess)

If, after the crossword is done and dusted, the clues and answers against them are given in a list form in the Comments section (leaving the main post with grid for would-be solvers in future), anyone interested might be able to give feedback, be it praise or pan, by reading them at a glance..

  35. ACROSS

1 Norse god overwhelmed by prayer for abundance (8) PLE (THOR )A def: abundance
***Neat wordplay, with good surface reading. Will a goddess like Lakshmi be never overwhelmed by such a prayer?

5 Dad, say follows mother with original yellow flower (6) MA Y POP def : flower
***I like the surface reading but I am not sure if the sequence MA Y POP is correctly indicated. I leave it to a reader to add a comment as, of late, I tend to make mistakes!

10 Appreciates publicity note about society (7) AD MI RE S def : appreciates
***Neat, good surface, everything in order.

11 New black attire that's worn by heads of clergy (7) B IRETTA*
***Good surface reading; though an anagram, this delayed solving as a letter in fodder had to be derived from 'black' and there are the words 'worn by' suggesting there might be a a c/c somewhere.

12 Load some escargots (5) CARGO def: load
***Pithy telescopic, though the fodder is in a single word.

    13 Crooked directions when one's abandoned principles ? (9) DOCTRINES ( D(I)RECTIONS* ) def : principles
    ***Neat anagram with deletion.

14 A brief quarrel, father left with anger - ultimately I have to try hard (6) S(pa)T R IVE def: try hard
    ***Where does R come from?

16 Old boy not in a passion for a meeting (7) (ob) SESSION def: meeting
***Familiar word breakup. I like the choice of 'passion' for obsession'.

19 Storm ripped apart a party (7) TORN A DO def: storm
    ***Neat.

21 Headgear modest son left for wife (6) (-s)(+W ) IMPLE def: headgear
    ***Neat.

23 Rags lying around the fishes (9) GRAYLINGS * def: fishes
***Plausible anagram. Those fishes must be dead and the scene is perhaps in a fish market.

25 Plump round bees all over the place (5) O BEES* def: plump
***Did someone disturb a beehive? What did those bees feed on?

27 Leading specialist leaves a deduction of disease (7) (ent)AILMENT def: disease
***Don't know how we get 'entailment' from 'deduction' which I would think is 'curtailment'.

28 A man has no time for lawyer's schedules (7) AGEN(t)+ DA S def: schedules
***Yes, these lawyers can be exasperating. I was asked by someone to contact a lawyer in Madurai over some matter. I sent him an email. Two days later. when I phoned him, he said he had not checked his mail! He would look at it and call me back, he added - no, he didn't add, I snatched it from his mouth with a 'Hmmm'. He never did! Do you think I will have any more time for his schedules?

29 Can endlessly trade showy ornament (6) TIN SEL (l) def: showy ornament
***To one customer or many customers?

30 Articles on achievement by Mexican city (8) FEAT URES def: articles
***OK. A by X can give AX or XA, I suppose.

    1. First of all thanks a lot for your detailed feedback .

11-A worn by is misleading , now I realise
      14-A R is from *anger - ultimately *
27-A I saw Entailment as a synonym of deduction in the freedictionary . So used it

  36. DOWN

1 Dictated to put a fish (6) PLACE ~ PLAICE def: fish
***Nice homophone ind. Maybe the transitive/intransitive use of the verb 'dictate' should have been given more thought.

2 Gem merchant stores a variety of wheat (5) EMMER def: variety of wheat
***Good hiden ind. After all, a gem merchant too must have his chapatis.

3 Instrument played by a choir man (9) HARMONICA * def: instrument
***Neat anagram though the fodder and the anagram ind might be chestnuts.

4 Ash to settle around university (7) RESID U E def: ash
    ***Good.

6 Salesman left mender a clotheshorse (5) (rep)AIRER def: clotheshorse
***OK. I am working from the last clue upwards; this deletion ind 'left' (or its inflection) appears to have been used more

    than once in this CWD.

7 Ability yet to be developed (9) POTENTIAL DD
***A DD that looks like a straightforward?

8 Lauding President who’s moving to higher position (8) P RAISING def: lauding
***Is there a problem in 'raising' as transitive v./intransitive v.?

9 A vehicle carrying accountant looking up at a calculating machine (6) A B AC<- US def: calculating machine
***Was the machine on the roof?

15 Waterproof canvas art spoiled by Paul at home (9) TARPAULIN def: waterproof canvas
***Neat combination. I bet Paul was not the artist!

17 A few nearly skip fast when drowsy (9) SOM(e) NO LENT def: drowsy
***I may accept, if reluctantly, 'skip fast' for NO LENT by marvelling at the audacity of that expression. The surface

reading is not that great, for we may skip a meal when drowsy, we might very well fast when falling asleep and not recovering

    from drowsiness to have supper.

18 A men's party with new worker is dull (8) STAG N ANT def: dull
***I think it was the new worker who spoilt it.

20 Scorn at Edward , giving flowery speech (6) ORNATE def: flowery speech
***A well-concealed hidden, but what is the hidden ind? '[S]peech' throws the solver off-track as 'oration' is not part of

wordplay. Ornate is an adj meaning 'fanciful, etc' so 'flowery speech', a noun qualified by an adj, cannot lead to it, I

    think.

21 Loss of direction at a platform (7) W A STAGE def: loss
***Neat. I have suffered it but realising my mistake I have run and caught a train at the nick of the moment.

22 Sumptuous meals fellow eats out with sister 6) F EAST* S def: sumptuous meals
***Good. I must call my sister who is in T'nagar.

24 Student with one easterner for example upset a feudal lord (5) L I E GE <- def: feudal lord
***Logical combination, though I might think 'for example' doesn't gel into surface reading.

26 The French retiring with the German ,is a senior (5) EL <- DER def: senior
***Good. Editing would put a comma after French, I think, and close the gap between German and the second comma.
