Today being Friday only the blank clues will be posted. All those who are silent followers of the blog are requested to post answers with annotations in the comments section. In your own interest please avoid looking up the answers from the interactive version. Don't hesitate to post your annotations, in case you make a mistake someone will correct it with the right annotation.

Please note a change. Each commenter is requested to post only 5 answers till 1 PM thereby giving others also a chance to participate. Between 1 PM and 4 PM more answers may be posted in case any are remaining to be answered.

The regular blog will replace the clues at 4 PM after which anyone is free to comment.

Thanks everyone for the response. Here is the regular blog

    1. Angostura is actually 'bitters' and not 'bitter'

      Delete
    2. Angostura is BARK with a bitter taste.

      Delete
    3. KKR it's not a bark. See this copy paste from the link I gave above

The bitters were first produced in the town of Angostura (Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela) (hence the name), but do not contain angostura bark. The bottle is easily recognisable by its distinctive oversized label. 'Angostura' is Spanish for 'narrowing', the town of Angostura having been located at the first narrowing of the Orinoco River.

    4. Yes Col. I agree it comes from the proprietary name.
But the dictionaries define ANGOSTURA as bitter aromatic bark from certain trees. I felt bitter/aromatic are just adjectives.
      Am I missing something?

      Delete
    5. If it's there in the dictionaries then that is right then. I always thought it is only bitters as I regularly add a few drops of it with my Gin

    6. bitter (n,british) is "alcohol flavoured with bitter plant extracts, used as an additive in cocktails or as a medicinal substance to promote appetite or digestion". angostura here is a bitter, in my understanding.

    7. You have defined Bitter. Look up Angostura

    8. angostura bitters noun, trademark a blend of gentian and herbs, used as a flavouring in cocktails and other alcoholic drinks, and some fruit juices.
ETYMOLOGY: 1870s: named after Angostura, now called Ciudad Bolivar, a town in Venezuela where it was first made.

      Angostura bitters is a bitter
