    2. Somehow the Enums for some compound words are getting changed when the paper is converting into their software.

  3. Hats off for 8D. With Lillee,Thomson around Marsh is thought of only as a keeper!

  6. My sparse database of unintended keywords threw me into quicksand to be drowned. Needed to learn and apply distilled solving techniques amongst others today.

  7. Colonel, 3 Down definition is “who are under cover….payment “

  8. 8D. Something to do with the cricketers? I don't see how we get quicksand. Random/unintended parsing also not clear to me. Liked 2D and 20D.

    2. Intended is a term for a fiance(e) as in Would-be. It is a CDDD combo with random being the normal definition

    3. Thank you, sree_sree and Avtaar. I was wondering whether I missed something I knew already. No. I am enlightened. While I am familiar with basic details of cricket I have never played the game. Intended for fiance(e) is new to me.

    1. Don't get discouraged. Avtaar's CW's are generally tough. Keep at it with the help of the blog. Not many of us would have completed- not me anyway.

    2. Sorry you found it hard. As a setter the attempt is to set clues that are fair to the solver and solvable with some thought

Not only topical but also very pragmatic in today's context.

  11. 11A classified as compound anagram?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Composite anagram is the more commonly used term. Usually expressed as (A+B)*=(C+D)* where one of them is the definition. This type of clue can be the only exception to the rule that.the definition has to be at one end. Hence, an indication like "this" or ----- may normally be given in the definition part. There need be only one Anagram indicator

  14. That is where one's thoughts go- not to the quicksand. Seems to be the universal favorite.
Caught Marsh b Lillee seemed to be the byword at one time. Great combination.
