From thefreedictionary.com:
ReplyDelete1. row 3 (rou) and plural would be to add 's' or 'z' at the end.
2. rouse (rouz)
Both would sound the same when heard by clicking on the speaker icon.
You're right Raghu. I didn't scroll down to the third definition while doing the CW.
DeleteYou people would have a cake walk today. Fairly easy and enjoyed samosas
ReplyDelete'row' in the sense of 'line' is pronunced as 'roe' (deer) and 'row' in the sense of racket, fight is pron'd as 'how' is done.
ReplyDeleteThe plural 'rows' in thes ense of fights would sound like 'rouse' (provoke).
Raghunath, what is the entry word in FD for which you have cited meanings?
The FD entry quoted by Raghu is for row in the sense of quarrel or fight
DeleteDeepak
ReplyDeleteRe your comment against 14ac, yes, I would think so.
However, Collins does give the meaning 'amateur' for 'unprofessional'.
Prob. on the analogy that an amateur is likely to act, bec. of lack of exp, in a way that is not that of a pro.
Kishore nonparticipating in IXL?
ReplyDeleteTop 10 in leaderboard after Round 1 VENKATRAGHAVAN, ARVIND RAMASWAMY, SURESH DORBALA, NARAYAN MANDYAM, MOHSIN AHMED, LAHAR APPAIAH, RAMESH JAGANNATHAN, NARAYA, VINOD RAMAN, MOHAN VERGHESE CHUNKATH and RAMKI KRISHNAN
ReplyDeleteOf these I have met everyone except Venkatraghavan, Narayan M and Naraya.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all the Top 10 in the Round 1. It is difficult to understand when the Round 2 clues would appear online. It is already 10.00 and we cannot indefinitely wait for the question paper!!!
ReplyDeleteThe time given is 11am
DeleteIt has been mentioned somewhere that it will show up at 11 a m in this and all future rounds.
ReplyDeleteThanks Suresh for the info.
ReplyDeleteIs the selection for the leader positions based on all correct entries and the time they send their entries in?
ReplyDeleteYes Raghu !
DeleteA participant with all correct entries submitted on say Thursday is better off than one who has submitted the puzzle with just one mistake within 15 or 20 minutes !!
ReplyDeleteIndeed. It is interesting to see what just one wrongly-typed letter in the whole puzzle can do to your score! :)
DeleteThough I had successfully completed my entry and sent it in at 1500 hrs last week, I didn't get the usual confirmation from them by email. I see that I had submitted an all-correct entry !! The solution box on my side is showing blank !! Very disappointed !!
ReplyDeleteMay be because I had net work problems in my laptop last week on and off !!
Only consolation is that I had an all-correct entry !!
Obviously your submission was not successful. If it was, you would have immediately got a confirmation on the same page and once you get the confirmation you will not be able to attempt again. In case you do not get the confirmation immediately on the same page you should try and submit again.
DeleteThanks ! I had some connection issues and also I was in the midst of some guests and could have been inattentive by pressing the wrong button !! Never mind ! I'm not in the race , anyway !!
DeleteToday, I have submitted successfully a few seconds ago and a confirmation also has been shown on the screen. I hope they send the email as a follow up ! Fingers crossed.
The grid hasn't appeared till now. Can someone update the status?
ReplyDeleteThe grid and clues were up at 11 AM
DeleteThe problem is when you log in before 11 and wait on the play page and refresh it it does load at all. I wasted time doing that. Later I logged in again and the puz appeared.
DeleteYeah that happens... sometimes if u refresh the page the grid may appear but it is best to log off and log on later.
DeleteI shuttle between Home & Play pages, and so far it has always loaded for me
DeleteThanks Deepak, I submitted now. There seems to be a glitch . I kept the page on and have been refreshing time and again but no effect. Ultimately, I reopened the page afresh to see the grid.I
ReplyDeleteReceived confirmation of submission from Crypticsingh ! some comfort !
ReplyDeleteNow you had better hold your head high.
DeleteEven otherwise, it's on very strong shoulders, always looking up high !!!
DeleteLate entry today. Bingo, beer and biriyani at Waltair club takes precedence.
ReplyDeleteDrinking from morning? Bad boy!! 😊
