Delete14A- Naira- Iranian-an= Currency
ReplyDeleteThere is a mistake in the fodder IRANIAN - AN leaves IRANI so you cannot get NAIRA. ANind is also missing
DeleteYes Col. You are right. Let me check.
DeleteI am not able to find any other currency to fit.
DeleteYour answer is correct. The mistake is in the clue

DeleteThanks Padmanabhan,
ReplyDeleteFirst time solving on Acrosslite with a confused mind.
4D EM BOIL
Once you are accustomed it is so easy, except when it jumps letters filled in already.
ReplyDeleteI am still trying to get used to this. Especially, the jumping part, I need to be careful.
DeleteThanks again.

Deleteam giving up..the setters logic is sorta beyond me :) hope someone solves the rest.. will look see and learn..
ReplyDeleteDon't blame you
DeleteQuiet tough..but persevered to complete..tougher because of a few errors, a few CDs & FITBs...as the setter would say a cranium cruncher all the way
ReplyDelete10D:seems an error..Raju can conform..perhaps later
ReplyDeleteThe word clued in is IUPAC name for Vinyl alcohol, and is not to be confused with drinking alcohol (used in alcoholic beverages) and also as rocket fuel.
DeleteRight..that part I got..but seems an error in spelling
DeleteYeah..now I got it..
DeleteFrom wikipaedia
DeleteC2H4O may refer to:
Compounds sharing the molecular formula:
Acetaldehyde (Ethanal)
Ethenol (Vinyl alcohol)
Ethylene oxide (Epoxyethane, oxirane)
13A Follows a route (4,1,4) TAGS A LINE
ReplyDelete7D Strategies are------- (4,2,3) USED IN WAR
20D Con the article! (5,2) STUDY IT
20D is supposed to be a CD?
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine getting Patrani from 'pattahu rani' leaving aside the language part.
If 13A is right, Vasant is right about 10D. Of course Raghu can confirm the formula.
You have to first guess the chemical compound & then get its IUPAC name to get the answer..quite roundabout
DeletePaddy Chemistry is long forgotten
DeleteI understand.:-)
DeleteRegulars are missing.MB, Ramesh,Suresh,Sandhya.
ReplyDelete10D - ETHENOL [GK]
ReplyDelete8D - TREPAN [GK]
12A - BOTH THERE [FITB]
Last one to be solved 23D
ReplyDeleteCol.
ReplyDeleteProblem with 10D is that the selling is given as 'Ethanol', with a A and not E. This crossing does not fit 13A- 'Tags a line'.
Just saw your 2.14 entry.
ReplyDelete23D- With available crossings it should be
ReplyDelete-T-W-D.
I could only fit in 'Stowed', giving meanings of saved, packed, stored, hidden, concealed etc. None of this would fit either oiled or Lit up'.
Stewed suits better.
ReplyDeleteSTEWED as DD fits better. But the clue then may be "Boiled and lit up"
DeleteYou are right KKR.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the special setter??
ReplyDeleteI have seen that ETHANOL is also spelt as ETHENOL .
ReplyDeleteSTEWED : I have seen PG Wodehouse using this for one of his characters getting drunk-- synonyms-- lit up and pickled , oliled etc.
SRIVIDYA: Precisely ! The setter's logic has to be tracked ! That'e the whole idea !
CST is an abbreviation for Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Bombay aka Victoria Terminus. Gita got it right .
Patrani is a bit way out, I agree ! Gita got it right again !
Thanks for your comments and thanks Col for posting my crossie and your comments before publishing.
