    1. That's a typo. Questions on some clues today. Is road R or RD? Where's the anagrind in 3D? But seeing CV's comment in his ans for 1a leads us to guess who the setter was, probably.

    1. Remember Wren and Martin?
I think what is meant is 'I' here is not a pronoun but an 'object' in the grammatical sense.
      "He gave me advice."

    2. Thank you CV. Though I clearly remember reading Wren & Martin, recalling it correctly when required is the problem.

    1. Think Renga has given the 18Dn answer in his question itself making it look like some kind of a clue!

  14. I find no one has given the solution for 4D, but in the grid it is fillec in as 'Erectiens'.
I had it it as 'Electress' who is given as a German princess. Clarification?
Has Rengaswamy indicated the solution to 18D with hesitation?

    1. 4D was not answered. ELECTRESS is correct. Seems to be a typo when CV entered the solution grid

  15. I think Rengaswamy has 'Answerers in mind. I had also filled in the same with a little hesitation. But on checking Free Dictionary on of the meanings given is - 'Responders who avoids giving a clear direct answer'.

  16. And now on to CV to give his indication of the setter's name.

  18. Those were the days when THC was published anonymously, I think, and the authorship can only be guesses. Having said that, I too thought it must be Manna..I believe that the Col. is guessing when he says 'Yes, it is.".

    1. It could only have been MM, as after NJ's entry anonymity was done away with. The grid also confirmed it was MM
