Nice one Sandhya
DeleteWonderful Sandhyaji! It was the last one to fall with no satisfactory explanation.
DeleteWhere does the THIN come from?
DeleteI thought fine = thin as in 'fine/thin material such as mull'.
DeletePerfect Col. It's not eclipsed.
ReplyDeleteI just about managed to finish it within the 45 mins of free WiFi time at the airport.
DeleteLuckily it was not xChequer who will now appear tomorrow if it's not a holiday
Great going! To solve a puzzle under trying conditions with different devices in different locations and yet keep the schedule - wonderful commitment. I admire it.

DeleteI see a completed blog..
ReplyDeleteNice easy one from Vulcan
Except for Tahini all fell quickly.
SOS , HELP!!
ReplyDeleteAm in Bombay ( we can call it POMPEI , given the ruinous state - a dying city !) right now; to board a flight to NY by 0330 hrs tomorrow. Yesterday, before going for lunch, I tried to open ICL, but while logging, though I had my password number alloted this year in good time, the SMS from the organizers has got gobbled up in cyberspace. Repeated attempts for a resend have not been responded to. Meanwhile, I opened up the Home page and found the puzzle and am doing cold solving. I am not competing but only desirous of compeleting. Can some one tell me the way forward? Thanks and good luck to all participants and may the best win !
Raju, I have just posted the grid and clues in excel format. Please check. Happy solving while you take the rigors of US travel!
DeleteThanks, KKR, but where have you posted? to my email ? I give the email ID: sapraj2711@gmail.com , please !
DeleteSRIVIDYA: Sorry to hear about your stomach-bug. Hope and pray that you are rid of it soon.
I have also been baffled about the ICL web site. I managed to open their Home page and as though to mock at me, the open grid stares at me, without being able to fill in as I had lost my password and requests made repaeatedly are unanswered. Waiting for Col's response as he is one of the organizers ! Good luck to you in reaching the site and the subsequet successful solving.
thanks Raju umameshwar..
DeleteJust landed back in Bangalore after attending the IXL launch at Delhi and the opening round fiasco.
ReplyDeleteWe are working on it to avoid such problems forever
What was the fiasco and why ? is it anyything related to mine - not getting the password and such like SNAFUS ?
DeleteNice easy one.
ReplyDelete10A, is there an extra s ? Boys + nicest = obscenity*, one s left over
Good job Supriyaji...I think we solved it instantaneously without counting numbers! S stands for superfluous here
Delete10A strikes again :-)
DeleteHa,ha,ha.
DeleteNice and unexpected one from Vulcan.
ReplyDelete1D- ('s) kept me off icon for a long time until I got 1A- integral.
Great job Col.
Ok.. all fell into place.. tho i continue to feel extremely rotten recovering from what i must imagine is a totally weird tummy bug.. and whats further weird.. i am not able to open the IXL crypticsingh website.. any help please..
ReplyDeleteMay God (in the name of Deepak) help you!!!
DeleteCan't help you there as I am unable to access it myself. I think they are carrying out maintenance to remove the scrapped CW of yesterday
DeleteWhat was the fiasco all about? Any details to be shared /
DeleteScrapped?
Deletehi.. Colonel but the IXL to play website seems to be working.. which means that the grid which was supposed to be scrapped is still up and people can still work on it. This is very weird.. if it was to be scrapped shouldnt the grid be first scrapped rather than the home website?
DeleteThere was a mistake in the clue for 10A as it led to the same answer as 15A, due to which the entire CW had to be scrapped
DeleteSrividya, where is it? I couldn't find it
DeleteI don't understand how 15A leads to 10A! 15 AC is perfectly drawn in my view. 10AC is the one which I filled at last, although it was not a convincing one.
DeleteBut both the answers are not same, I think.
KKR the clue shown against 10A is incorrect. The answer which you get from the clue is not what should have been there. If you put in REPERTOIRE at 10A it will not match wit the Down clues that cross it
DeleteWhat did you fill at 10A?
Deletehttp://serorg.cloudapp.net/ixl16/default.aspx - here is the link DG sir
DeleteYes, 10AC with the available crossings, will lead to PILLAR-E-D. The clue has pier in it, which came to my mind.
DeleteDG sir ..has it been confirmed that the round is scrapped? which means best of 9.. not 10??
DeleteScrapped? What further?
ReplyDeleteColonel, what were the results of the CSOI general round yesterday ( top 3). Couldn't stay back till the results were announced because of the timing of the First round of IXL.
ReplyDeleteVenkatesh was first. Yourself and Abhay were 2nd and 3rd don't remember though who was second and who was third
DeleteThanks Colonel.
DeleteCSOI = Civil Services Officers’ Institute (CSOI)
DeleteCOL: wILL THEY NOW ISSUE FRESH PASSWORDS? My repeated requests for my2016 password have not been responded to. See my SOS here .
ReplyDeleteRaju, password has nothing to do with scrapping yesterdays round. Send an email to singh.kushagra@gmail.com
DeleteRaju,
DeleteI sent you an excel sheet with yesterday's grid and clues. It seems boxbe.com is blocking your mails to be delivered. Please check.
THANKS, kkr . bOXBE.COM DID COME IN BUT MY WIFE SAW IT AND STASHED IT. i'LL RETRIEVE IT AND TRY MY LUCK 1
DeleteCol.,
ReplyDeleteI went to the home page and clicked 'Play' button. CW with clues appears as usual.
+1
DeleteI can't get the Home Page
DeleteTHANKS, COL. i HAVE SENT A REQUEST TO kHUSHAGRA SINGH.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand one point. Why the entire episode should be scrapped just because of 10AC? The evaluation could still be completed ignoring this clue altogether or taking it correct whatever one has filled in.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. That would have been a just and an easy way out. Like awarding marks for a wrong question in an exam.
ReplyDeletebecause of the fact that timing is a crucial part .. some people submitted it earlier with either 10a not filled in or arbitrarily filled in..now some people agonized over 10a and did not submit knowing from past experience that getting all right is more important in IXL than submitting with one wrong earlier :)
DeleteYes, I get your point. Time is a major factor here.
DeleteHere is the flash from the IXL website:
ReplyDeleteIXL round 1 has been scrapped! Fresh first weekly round would start on September 18 2016.
The organization regrets the inconvenience caused to the participants.
Get ready folks for 18th Sept! Goodluck!!!
How do you get flash? How do you get communication from adminstrators of IXL..e.g. you said yesterday that the puzzle would be up at 12.30..
DeleteHa ha, this is not my invention. These are mentioned in their website.
DeleteNews of IXL 2016 launch at IXL 2016
ReplyDeleteThanks KKR..Col..
ReplyDeleteGuess I dont study websites closely
Please explain CICADA one point I did not get it
ReplyDeleteFederal agency = CIA (Central Intelligence Agency)
Deletetraps = Containment indicator
scoundrel = CAD
with
bug = Definition = {CI{CAD}A}
