Comely rhymes with homely , another word which is rarely used nowadays. Homely has different connotations in different continents. Does comely also have different meaning !
ReplyDeleteIt was a fashion some years ago for parents to place matrimonial ads seeking homely brides for their well-grown-up sons who sons who probably were such. Ok. Suggest words for opposite of homely in this context, leaving those parents and sons alone. No offence meant. Just a language exercise.
