Delete18a GEN X (CD)
ReplyDeleteIncorrect answer
DeleteI know many medical terms and when I gently use them in my talk with the doctors, their eyebrow will go up. But they won't scold me for showing up my "Internet" knowledge. But 20 is new to me. Thanks Avtaar.
ReplyDeleteAuscultation is the term used for hearing sounds within the chest or abdomen with the help of a stethoscope . This is taught to medical students when they start their clinical postings. Sadly with modern technology, this art is getting lesser and lesser importance and not heard of much in the lay press.
DeleteNowadays doctors rarely touch their patients.
DeleteWhen I was a child the doctor in the military hospital to which my father took me used to fondle the earlobes of kids and established a bonhomie with the patient. The last time my stomach was palpated was several years ago the famous Dr K V Thiruvengadam.
The steth seems to be on the way out, the butterfly IQ gadget seems to be the new kid on the block. Sad or not, I am not sure, some technological advances are probably good, but cost of medical care will probably also rise
DeleteThe Dr. here whom I go to thoroughly checks me.. He puts a stethoscope on my chest, om back, on my neck.. He even taps my knees and my ankles with a mallet... He is a young Thai doctor by the name of Kajonsak.. He does full justice to the monthly examination.. Talks in great length about benefits of exercise, walking and yoga..
DeleteReally glad to know him and consult him..
Auscultation and Auscultation have a lot in common..
and Ausculation
DeleteOff topic but related to crosswords
ReplyDeleteSowmya Ramkumar (Hypatia),who (as you may know) lives in Bahrain, has set a special IPL crossword.
The puzzle will be published tomorrow.
Before that she had invited visitors to her blog to set clues for VIRAT KOHLI.
Of the 25 clues she received she has shortlisted 11. One of them is mine.
Today anyone can vote for the best five.
The form is available here:
https://www.1across.org/2020/09/16/ipl-special-clue-writing-contest-voting-form/
Don't be bamboozled by it.
There are five slots with 5 points, 4 point and down to one.
You see the same clue in light type every slot. Don't be puzzled. Look at the drop down arrow. Drop down and all 11 clues will appear. Click on your chosen clue and it will sit in the slot.
Repeat till one.
Fill the rest of the form name, etc, and submit.
The prize-winning clue will be included in the special puzzle which is thematic and has the names of cricketers.
The results and the puzzle will be published on the 18th which is inaugural day, I think. If you are interested, the voting has to be done by midnight today. If by chance you choose my undisclosed clue and my total goes up,, I could be the winner as total will go up.
Done Sir. It is very interesting to note in how many methods a same term can be expressed. Hope I identified your clue properly.

How can the epaper be different from the print edition. I printed the crossword from the epaper and 4D is missing. It looks like a exact copy of the print edition
ReplyDeleteSorry e-paper also missed it. The online interface has it right
Delete13A: Why can't it be duty? Student joining duty to make money. Duty coming from "study". Can anyone please explain? I am novice to the cryptic crossword.
ReplyDeleteStudy is LEARN, Student is L . So Student drops out of Study is remove L from LEARN i.e. EARN - MAKE MONEY
DeleteThanks Lakshmi. Trust all well
DeleteYes SSV š
DeleteOkay, thank you Lakshmi. I removed S from study, based on "student drops of study" and re-arranged to make it duty ( which kinda relates to job/making money).
DeleteThanks a lot! I will keep learning.
Beautiful surfaces. So many clues to pick as favourites. Well done Sreeni!
