Thanks to KKR for this special as a tribute to our late friend Raju who left us for his heavenly abode on 12 Sep 2020.
ReplyDeleteThanks Col for publishing this.
DeleteRaju became one of my best friends in a very short span of time. Although I saw him only once [that too in whatsapp video chat], we had several occasions to talk almost every week and subject was invariably crosswords. Such was his dedication to the crossies. I really enjoyed my talks with him and felt very sad that we could never personally meet due to the pandemic. I strongly believe Raju is already born elsewhere in the world to be the future cruciverbalist. Miss you Raju!!!

I was not so regular last year in the blog. So, happened to know about Raju leaving us only as a reference when Gridman passed away. Have known him for years. And he has been very charitable to me on his comments and effusive in praise. A very good soul. We all miss you Raju. See you on the other side whenever it is
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thoughts, Shrikanth
DeleteThank you KKR for the wonderful timely tribute to one of our great friends. Is it only one year? Seems a long time- we were used to his daily comments soaked in wit and appreciation when it deserved. Share your regret that I was not able to meet him.
ReplyDeleteCould not do full justice since Djokovic kept me distracted. He is just one step away from Greatness.
Thanks again Paddy.
DeleteYes, it just so happened that he left during the IXL 2020 initial rounds.
In summary, the following clues remain satisfactorily annotated:

ReplyDeleteYes, Paddy. You are perfectly right.
DeleteA fitting tribute to a great soul at the right time. Thanks to Col. who used the Best possible moment to publish this- his first anniversary as well on the eve of this year's IXL.
ReplyDeleteHats off to both of you.
Thanks Paddy.
DeleteThanks to all for participating in the grid in memory of an untiring cruciverbalist.
Thanks Col
Thanks for the special KKR
DeleteUntiring is the apt word. He breathed, ate and slept CW's. It was very much a part of his life. I used to wonder at his earnestness in participating literally from all corners of the world,be it Tokyo or New York. Without bothering about the time he will put in his comments and appreciations the moment he reads the blog.
ReplyDeleteTo term today's puzzle as special is an understatement! 🙏🙏🙏
ReplyDeleteMessage from Raju's wife Sapna after seeing today's blog and comments

It was a bitter sweet moment for me , seeing the completed grid and then reading the heartfelt comments from all his crossword friends. That was his world and he revelled in it.
I can't thank you Deepak, and dear Mr.K.K Rao for this tribute to my late husband. Words can't express what I'm feeling right now. You all have given him the best 10 years of his life post retirement by making him a part of this crossword family. For that I will be ever grateful 🙏
Unquite
