DeleteA booster of confidence in greenhorns.
ReplyDeleteNot just for greenhorns.
DeleteIt's green even for hornless!!!
DeleteIs the circular nature in 8a OK?
ReplyDeleteAppeal=petition=plea=appeal
Not a problem, but a few would raise eyebrows on Reassure citing root issue.
DeleteShall we say- 'It was redrafted into a petition'?
Deletehttps://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/plea
DeleteMiddle English ple, plede, from Anglo-French plai, pleit from Medieval Latin placitum, from Latin, decision, decree, from neuter of placitus, past participle of placēre to please, be decided — more at PLEASE

DeleteA doubt in 17D. Consult is a noun only in American...
ReplyDeleteEven otherwise, its "seeks advice", provider is consultant?
DeletePerhaps I should have added "in America " to the clue
DeleteI'm guessing consults as a noun meaning advice not as a verb
DeleteI thought provides advice makes it a verb - hence consults. No need for America & all that. Kindly explain.
DeleteSome of these clues are just not elegant or clean. For 14 across why would you put in container? It adds no value and then for 22 across between shapes and molds you need one letter and for that there is so much unnecessary verbiage in the clue. I got all of these but came here to comment that I did not enjoy today's crossword. It lacked elegance.
ReplyDelete14A- Inert contains S.
Delete22D- 'Shapes molten metal using containers' is one def. since that is what moulds do,the other def. being fungal growths. This is indicated in the main post clearly.
I am not saying I didn't get it. I'm saying the clues are not elegant. Thanks for mansplaining them to me though :)
Delete"Mansplaining'?
DeleteI don't see any problem with 22Dn.
DeleteIt's long-winded and I personally don't like it. Technically it's absolutely fine
DeleteI'll stop commenting now because I am well over the recommended 5 comments
DeleteAlso deeply disapproving of the vadai sambar clue. It's very lazy.
ReplyDeleteOn the good side, 2 down made me snort.
ReplyDeleteAlso misprision was really nice and a new word too
