  11. 1 Ac GLASNOST (a word, along with prestroika, that appeared frequently in newspapers at the time of Gorbachev),
    anagram of SLOGAN and S from essentially Russian, t from Transparent. Transparent doing double duty.


    12 Ac FACSIMILE = SIM ( a card in cell phone) in FACILE (easy); a word that is almost forgotten now after technology brought in FAX.

    1. Hi.1A is &lit clue. The whole sentence defines Glasnost. Glasnost was a Russian slogan for initiation of transparency. There is no double duty.

  22. Very busy since yesterday with visit of relatives. Got time only now.
    The grid was difficult even for the stage finalists it seemed. Most of these were passed on. I think each clue required more time than normally allowed on stage.
