ReplyDeleteIs 'RS' house? Residence shortened?
Rajya Sabha, as noted by Col. in the reference list
DeleteOh! Sorry,I did not notice it.
ReplyDeleteMy picks-
ReplyDeleteCyclist,Blow a fuse (I did not get it) Jest set,Pince-Nez,Malabar,Teapot(!)
It is really refreshing to see Sunnet back in the grids.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the enjoyable offering.
Thanks KKR Garu
DeleteTheme?
ReplyDeleteSherlock Holmes!
DeleteMore specific than that
DeleteSolitary Cyclist, Empty House, Golden Prince-Nez, Return Of Sherlock Holmes..
ReplyDeleteThanks Sunnet for the puzzle and your Comeback.
That is all are stories from Return of SH
DeleteAll the theme words were from the collection published under 'The return of Sherlock Holmes'
DeleteThanks Vasant. And congratulations for spotting a slightly obscure theme
DeleteOh, it's a double dhamaka!
DeleteWell spotted Vasanth. Missed it in spite of being a Holmes fan.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyable puzzle. I got all the clues except 22D Holmes. Didn't spot the theme though I'm a Doyle fan too!
ReplyDeleteWho isn't?
DeleteThanks Amita
DeleteThe theme takes me back to 1956. That year I was rusticating in Durgapur, West Bengal, before I went on to do my SSLC in Coimbatore later. That was when I read all these stories. Books were brought home by father from office library in a steel city that was in its incipient stage.
ReplyDeletewarm welcome to Sunnet. Puzzle 1D amazing. its without support. well demonstrated.
ReplyDeleteThanks Prasanna
DeleteThough I filled in with the help of crossings,I did not get Zen part. Good one.
DeleteCol enjoying the snow!
ReplyDeleteNice little exercise from sunnet. Old student was late in striking so Holmes was also delayed.
Thanks Prasad
DeleteI did not notice the Kasuli part- woke up after the mention of snow.
DeleteOld student (OB) dawned late for me too.
Great to see you back Ramesh :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Doc.
DeleteEnjoyable feature, Sunnet. Spreading sunshine even in Tokyo! I'd have missed all the fun of this pangram, based on a theme from the inimitable Doyle stock. How come you missed the most elementary character, Watson ?
ReplyDeleteI can't thank enough MB and his son Chaitanya for making it possible to do THC. Looking forward to the Sunday Special tomorrow.
In 1dn zen is acid?
ReplyDeleteIn 21ac how do u get list? From lean?
Although I got all the words today, couldn't parse quite a few. So kindly explain. Thx.
ZEN is the Street name for lysergic acid diethylamide
ReplyDeleteYes, lean is list
In such cases, simply look up 'list' in a dictionary.
ReplyDeleteIt will show the usual n. and v. meanings of the familiar 'list' but also the other meaning 'lean' as a v.
The benefit of this looking up words in a dictionary is it enhances our understanding and appreciation of the language.
You will learn that 'list' is used in the context of a ship that falls on one side and rests after having been caught in a storm.
You can't say 'The man listed on the wall' when you want to say he leant against the wall.
Crossword solvers [and setters] have to lean on list of dictionaries!!!
DeleteThanx
